And no where a word of love for his lady wife. *sighs* I'd say that Denethor was a horrible man but, in truth, he reflects what we know of medieval men throughout history. Emotions were not required, love was a liability. It's telling however for Denethor to waive off the healer's remarks about sea-winds; he could not see beyond his own borders I think, unless it was convenient. More's the pity. He might have been a better man, a better steward if he could get his head out of you-know-where. :) I suppose Poor Finduilas must content herself with a missive from the battlefield and count her luck he wrote at all. This little story makes me sad in a way; knowing what we know and seeing the hardship Denethor is heaping upon himself, his wife and sons. Well done, Linda! Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.Denethor is certainly not very likeable, but he is tragic in his self delusion. I'm pleased you liked this little story.

Is that all you wished to write of me? What about all my victories? You write more of that ranger than I.Where was he when I was out leading men against the enemy? I get a short piece written of me while he gets "epics"?I am displeased that that you would write that I would ask of wine at a time like that when I had men to lead.Do you not think I am wiser than that? I am not some witless halfling. At least you didn't write me as some crazy old fool lighting himself on fire. As if I would do something such as that. Author Reply: It is good to hear from you Lord denethor that you should take the time to read this scribe's story. The prompt I wrote this for demanded that you ask for wine. I don't see you as ever over indulging in it!

Oh, this was very lovely, Linda! Poor Denethor, so often does he get short shrift, so that Aragorn can shine - it's not fair. I know you love Aragorn, so I'll shut up, but as a devout Denethor-fangirl, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm delighted that you enjoyed this story. This Aragorn fangirl does enjoy writing about the tragic Steward sometimes!

Poor little Faramir--as young as he is already he suffers from being under rated! Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. It is so sad that even as a little child, faramir was not appreciated.
