Call me Thorongil  by Linda Hoyland 3 Review(s)

And here Denethor proves himself blinded by his pride and arrogance. It is always dangerous to see a stranger with ones own preconceived notions. Just because the stranger doesn't give a father's name doesn't necessarily mean he is a nobody.

Ah, but how well I can recognize the growing pride of Denethor son of Ecthelion as he considers with growing bafflement the honor his father offers this apparent nobody. But perhaps Ecthelion sees more clearly the future of both their land and the newcomer, maybe even seeing in part at least what role this Thorongil will one day play.

Beautifully done, Linda!

Author Reply: Thank you so much. Denethor's overweaning pride is his great tragedy.
