What a lovely discussion and one that must be explained. And you did so well in having Gandalf explain everything to Pippin.

Very thought provoking. I would hope that is truly the case.

A wonderful and so plausible busting of fanon here! The conversation that the Master did not put down in the book that perhaps he ought to have done! Thanks for this one, Lin!

Oh, well done! I always resented what the film implied about Denethor. This makes a lot of sense, especially in the light of Pippin not hearing what went on in the Council session (I hadn't thought of that).

Oh, that is so much better than what PJ implied. I think I benefited from that as much as Pippin did. Great story and great Gandalf.

You always hit Gandalf's voice spot-on. Pippin's, too. But I think writing Gandalf is a lot harder. Yet, every nuance is his. Nice job! As for this tale - a wonderful expose, if that is the word, for the dreaded sentence. I never once thought Denethor meant for Faramir to be dead (though I'm sure at one point he was fit to be tied when he discerned Faramir let Frodo go!!!). It only stands to reason, for someone Gandalf did admire, to not be such a monster. I was particularly tickled by Gandalf's comment, at the end, that he thought that would be the end of Pippin's questions. Doesn't he remember the wild ride from Rohan? :) Great tale and explanation of a touchy issue that PJ exploited.
