Thain Peregrin I: the First Days  by Garnet Took 4 Review(s)

Ah, the perfect afternoon and evening. How proud of his dedication and love for his wife Frodo would have been of him. And he's proved himself to have the makings of an excellent Thain indeed!

Author Reply: This was an enjoyable chapter for the author as well as for the characters. :)

Yes, I think Frodo would have been proud of Pip on several counts.

Glad you liked it and thanks for sticking with me on this one.

At last, I can review! I read this last night but haven't had a chance before now to leave a good word.

Pippin's just like a kid anticipating Christmas! Very sweet.

Regi would probably be delighted to fetch him another plate! Maybe two!

“Are there a lot?” asked Pippin.

Reginard shrugged his shoulders. “It depends on your definition of a lot,” he said.

Very precise of Regi... can't go wrong there...

Nice ruling in the case of the wandering bull.

I love Farry's summary of good behaviour. And Pippin as an eternally silly, irrepressible baby brother.

The last of the preparations and the rest of the chapter made me grin. Lovely!

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked it.

Regi is a very good balance for Pippin and vice versa.

When it comes to certain things, pip will never grow up.

Glad you liked the decision on the bull. I just thought of it and threw it in.

Glad you liked the last bit. I had way too much fun writing it.

*grin* A perfect surprise for Diamond! You really made me smile with this chapter!

Oh: I have to congratulate you on something else. Coincidentally, on the LJ community fanficrants, just today, I had mentioned in a comment that I'd only seen the word "pique" used correctly in a fanfic once. Someone else said they had *never* seen it used correctly. Well, now, for the second time, I have seen it used correctly!! Whee!

(It's not a common word, so I just had to mention it! Isn't it funny how things like that crop up?)

Author Reply: Glad the chapter made you grin.

The last half just wrote itself. It was like they were having a confessional moment and telling me, "First we did this and then that happened and, oh by the way, somewhere in there we had that wonderful wine and ate all those fantastic nibbles."

I'm excited that you were impressed with the use of the word "pique". I use it a lot in just the way I used it in the story. I just I'd never noticed that most people have either not heard it or never heard it used correctly.

It is sometimes interesting how you come across something rare and then it just keeps cropping up.

Glad you have enjoyed the story and thank you for sticking with me through it and faithfully reviewing. It really helped.

It's interesting to think about the parallels between Pippin's life as Thain and Aragorn's as King. They're both guardians of land and people who trust and respect them, and both are making decisions with as much wisdom as they can... with good people to help them every step of the way.

This is a very loving and lovely chapter. I'm so happy for Pippin and Diamond, and the Tooklands, and all of the Shire that such joyous and peaceful times have come at last.

Author Reply: I've alway thought that Pippin and Aragorn had a lot more in common than most would think. Pippin really paid attention to how Aragorn governed and tried to learn from it. Also, I've always viewed Pippin as more intelegent than most people gave him credit for. :)

Pippin and Diamond lover each other madly, even though they have a very dark time ahead. Diamond eventually has to work through her own issues and will eventually remember that Pippin loves her as much as he showed her on this day early in his Thainship.

Yes, I'm getting ready to finish that trilogy that covers the building of the Thain's family. :)

Thanks for sticking with me through this whole thing and thanks for the encouraging reviews.
