Relief  by Linda Hoyland 4 Review(s)

Know how they feel. We've had a heat wave around here, too, and the case of lemons we squeezed into juice last year (don't tell anyone that the juice is only supposed to be in the freezer for, what, a month? three months?) has nearly all been made into lemonade, poured over ice, over a stretch of weary days.

I am so grateful for ice! Our community has even run out of ice a few times (as in, all the stores sell out on a daily basis)! We just keep filling our home ice trays and as soon as they're frozen, dump them into the bin and fill them again... Somehow we've managed to stay ahead. And on a less-hot day I got a bag of ice from the store (because it was less hot, they didn't sell out of ice), and it's secreted in the freezer against the forecasted return of the heat wave.

Thoughtful of Arwen, and of her husband in turn. I should think the kitchen staff would need iced drinks most of all, considering they're working around cooking fires!

Too bad the air conditioner hasn't been invented yet! =)

How pleased he's made the servants, allowing them to share in the bounty of the ice! And at last there is relief for now.
