In a Dusty Corner  by shirebound 8 Review(s)

That was nice of him to pay the first price named ...

It makes the heart seize a little to think of that mithril shirt just gathering dust in that little room for anyone to make off with. Of course, the beauty of it is that hobbits have no idea of its worth. :-P

Author Reply: The Professor never explained why Bilbo loaned the shirt to the Mathom House, but it would be nice to think that, once in a while, someone came by who recognized and respected it.

This is lovely. There aren't nearly enough fics related to the events of The Hobbit.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I'd love to explore that Mathom-house myself.

“I would not dream of making an offer,” the Dwarf said solemnly.

Falco obviously does not know the worth of the mithril coat, but the dwarf does.
And Bilbo was right that he would need it someday again...

Last but not least, although it is VERY late: Happy belated birthday!

Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea! I had a nice birthday. :)

I'm very glad you like this little scene.

I love this Dwarf and the little details that tell so much of his character.

(And the "slip" of the tongue... burglar... was a delightful touch.)

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I've never written an OC Dwarf before.

I like this chapter very much. Thanks for write a good story about Tolkien's books.

Author Reply: Thank you, Drumy! :)

Oh, but quite the find for this Dwarf! Lovely the honor it is given for the sakes of both Thorin and Bilbo! And, of course tea is at four--he's a Dwarf and would know when he was welcome! Delightful!

Author Reply: Thank you! Once I started thinking about this idea, it just wouldn't let me go. I like to think that at least a few people appreciated that wonderful mail shirt.

I love the idea of a Dwarf buying toys and trinkets in the Shire. We're they the only tourists to take home momentos? Hope your day has been a joyful one. Thank you for the present.

Author Reply: I'm glad you like this idea. I always felt that Dwarves were rather soft-hearted (even if it wasn't obvious). I had a very nice birthday, thank you, and was happy to be able to share a mathom-gift for everyone. :)
