A great pleasure to see new work from one of my favourite authors. Otis is very realistically drawn - and we all know people like this in real life. I want to know if he makes a go of his internal exile, or whether he descends further into recrimination and self-justification?!

*gasp* (A poor imitation of my sharply indrawn breath as I reached the point where Frodo admitted cursing someone with/under the power of It.) This was heart-breaking. How shattering to read it was. Well done, my friend. Powerfully written. My heart breaks for Frodo, and my respect for Isumbard has grown even greater. I found this especially intriguing: Between them Ferdi and Pippin have made that plain to me. If that scene has already been written, please point me to it! And if not... well... more grist for the Mill, as they say in Hobbiton. Best to you, and thanks so much for the lovely birthday gift. I am encouraged to finish that stubborn mathom that was supposed to get posted last month but refused to give up the ending part quite yet. I forgot to mention on the phone the other day that Panda is still with us. Her spirit burns as brightly as ever, mischievous, enthusiastic, joyful, even as her body is failing her. My heart is breaking into little pieces in slow motion. When Zoe died, I swore I'd never love another dog, and I held onto my resolve quite stubbornly for a long time after the new puppy arrived. But ultimately, I failed, and now I am undone.

Hi Larner, Great to see this as a coherent whole. None so blind as he who cannot see the consequences of his actions. Everyone suffers. I am sorry but I have only just read the response to my review. My email hasn't changed in all these years. harrowcatliz@netscape.net Love to hear from you. Hugs, Elizabeth

Ah. You've added to this one since I left my thoughts on the Prologue. I have marked it for future reading. I've been working on scientific papers and a dissertation all day, and my eyes are tired. I should investigate screen readers to allow me to feed my fanfic habit after the day's work is done... I used to be able to swipe down on my phone and it would read me an entire chapter from the SoA site, but that function no longer seems to work the same way as it used to. Now, it merely highlights a paragraph at a time, which means I have to keep looking at the screen to get it to read to me, which rather defeats the whole purpose. (Got any free or low-cost screen-readers to recommend?) Author Reply: I know of screen readers for computers and laptops, but not for phones. I'll have to talk to some of my friends who are more up on current technology. I've been out of the classroom for too long.

So the Shire collaborators are going to have their comeuppance... Good for Mr. Otis. BTW shouldn't this be chapter 3, as the first is prologue and the Chapters are numbered from the next.. Author Reply: Yes, and as King Elessar's personal advocate, Frodo's been given this job to do. And thanks so for the correction. Have made it.

Hi Larner, It was a lovely surprise to find this this morning. Youvportray youngsters so well. A very happy Christmas season to you and yours Author Reply: This story was originally written some time ago, published originally in one of my collections. But I've wanted to gather these into one single story, and finally have this one done. So glad to see you here. Could you give me your email address so I can write you personnally. My old email client no longer works with Windows 10 or 11. I love writing children! Author Reply: This story was originally written some time ago, published originally in one of my collections. How vicious and mean Lotho is. He'll get his come uppins some day. Author Reply: And that he did, Tari. That he did. Between Lotho and his allies the Shire was belittled and damaged badly--until the Travellers returned. Thanks so!

Oh my! This is going to be a very bad Yule for Sweetpea and her husband. Otis however is already feeling uneasy about the presence of the Big Men. I wonder how long it takes them to show their real intentions. Maybe not this time, but soon enough. Author Reply: Sorry I didn't respond to your review at the time it was written. It's taken a while to get this put into a proper format and get it posted. It wasn't until Sharkey came that all realized that the Big Men had a far more proper master than Lotho Sackville-Baggins, and they began acting out their real intentions. Thank you so!

Looks like Lotho has found the perfect partner in crime. Author Reply: That he has! Heh! Thanks, Tari.

people were likely to accept its inclusion as typical Sackville-Baggins dismay that they weren’t likely to ever dwell in Bag End themselves What a perfidious plan! At first I had my doubts, but now I think that it really will work that way. It seems that Lotho found a fellow that day. What they have in common is the hate for Frodo Baggins. Author Reply: Oh, yes, Lotho has found a fellow indeed after all this time, with their joint hatred for Frodo bringing them together, and their desire to jointly put one over on the whole Shire keeping them in collusion together. Glad you can see how this idea that the SBs were only expressing frustration would in the end work to fulfill Lotho's designs! Thanks so, Andrea!
