I loved this! If you posted it on LJ then I missed it there. I like how much Hamfast reminds me of Sam. No wonder Bilbo likes him! I like your explanation for how the Gamgees wound up in number 3. Great story-telling as always!

Author Reply: Thank you so much, my friend! Dreamflower gave me a prompt that really got my imagination soaring.

Such a lovely Yule story. I love the your way with words. It sounds right like hobbits.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. You know how much I adore hobbits! :)

I love this story!! So wonderful to see Hamfast as a child and an excited and happy one. I wonder what turned him into the Gaffer who I don't really like for being mean to his youngest son (though I'm sure his son doesn't really think he is demeaning to him but he is). I love Bilbo talk about defending the prunings with his life. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I'm so glad you like this, especially the part about the treasured prunings. That was my favorite part! :)

Except for the wizard he’d not seen any other Big Folk in his life, and hadn’t never planned to, but now Mr. Bilbo was saying that the Outside was full of them! How about that?

So even Hamfast Gamgee would have liked a good adventure when he was young! Who would have thought :-)

Very nice story. Thank you!

Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea. I had a lot of fun with this. I hadn't given much thought to Hamfast's childhood before!

What a cozy little scene. A bit sad, but full of comfort and care among neighbors and friends -- just as life tends to be. Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I like to imagine Bilbo and his neighbors looking out for one another.

Delivery hobbits... I chuckled when I read that line. Lol.

Happy new year to you, mellon.
Please more good stories involving some good ol' Elves and hobbits thanks :)

Author Reply: Happy New Year to you! May our tales go ever on and on. :)

What a lovely, innocent story. I love the thought of Ham before he became the Gaffer - there is a spark of Sam's curiosity there, however hard he tried to quell it as be got older! ;) Thank you for a most enjoyable story.

Author Reply: Thank you for this lovely review. I greatly enjoy writing (and reading) gentle stories that bring us deeper into a character's thoughts or heart. It's delightful to imagine the Gaffer as a young hobbit.
