I was that protector for a short time, and if ever you are in need, I shall be once more.

Oh, how wonderful! I didn't at all anticipate the identity of the child, or how momentous this rescue would turn out to be. A lovely story. :)

"I had not realized the comfort caring for a small one brings," he said as she fell back asleep. "You have helped me grieve my loss and given me hope for the future. The Valar work in mysterious ways."

What an unexpected experience for Legolas! I look forward to the next chapter.

I've not seen the other story, but sincerely admire this one! Thank you! Love the reveal of just whose child the little "orc" turned out to be!

Author Reply: I am SO GLAD you enjoyed it Larner! It was a joy to write, though trying to make sure my Elvish worked was a huge challenge. And I'm happy that it was believeable, too!

If you are so inclined to torture/entertain yourself for about 15 minutes and see the source material for this story, I will give you 2 Youtube links for "Legolas by Laura." You don't want to read it on your own, TRUST me!

Link 1- channel for ManWithoutABody. He does a reading of the story EXACTLY as it was written, and you can follow along as he reads it for full impact. youtube. com/ watch? v=QBOiHnPVHHY (I don't know if it will show the link so I put spaces in.)

Link 2- channel for ITTMoses. Once you've watched/listened to the above video, have this one ready to play before your brain melts. Trust me on this. It is a "Movie" with Manwithoutabody's dramatic reading- Legolas by Laura- The Motion Picture. THE.BEST.THING.EVER! youtube. com/watch ?v=BMbjK1m6alg
