Yes, double review for this chapter! But I've been missing this story so I just re-read the whole thing straight through. Wanted to let you know how great it flows -- what a ride! Looking forward to more. Happy New Year!

Author Reply: Thanks! :-) I'm glad to hear it flows -- I often go back and read my stories all the way through when I'm done...both to get an idea of their flow and because it's almost like reading a new story for me sometimes. It's definitely not the same reading them as when I'm writing them....

Sorry for the delay. :-( It seemed that the muse was still exhausted from the holidays last weekend, and a family party today -- but I'm still in top of it, never fear! Hopefully I'll have a new chapter out by midweek...

Thanks so much for reading and all your faithful support, it means a lot! :-)

Ah, but he is clever, hopefully clever enough. Now, are Elrond and Dorhaur still there? They would be the needed buffer between the boy and Baradhald.

Author Reply: Yes, he definitely needs a buffer. I have a feeling ;-) that there's going to be a line drawn pretty soon... Elrond will certainly need an explanation for why Estel chose to climb up the side of the hill rather than head down like he said he would, and once that's out...

Thanks as always for reading and commenting!

Happy Christmas to you as well PSW. thank you for another great chapter and indeed an awesome story.

Poor Estel, growing up is already hard enough. *** giggles*** why does it feel like he's about to get into another predicament?

Author Reply: Well, at the very least Elrond and Dorhaur are going to be at the top wondering what he's doing... :-P We'll see, though...

Thanks so much for reading and commenting! :-)

Estel is absolutely right that being in a place makes learning its history easy and more fun. In his case, of course, it's also great practical preparation for his future. His wish to be an Elf like the people he loves and admires seems natural to me, even though it's sad. Elrond handled that well. His half-Elven state must give him some insight into Estel's struggle.

I also liked that Estel has camp chores to do. We'll see how things work out with the Rangers who are soon to depart.

Author Reply: I can't see how he would grow up as he has and *not* wish to be an Elf, at least at some point. Kids don't like to be different.... I suspect that raising him is subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) different than raising Elrond other children, both because of nature and nurture, as it were...

Thanks so much as always for reading and for your comments! :-)

"you must strive to be the best of us."

And so he did. I wonder if this camping spot is the same that Aragorn and the hobbits used? *beams*

Merry Christmas to you, and thank you for this marvelous tale!

Author Reply: Probably. If it's good enough for Glorfindel, after all... ;-)

Thanks so much for reading and all your comments -- I appreciate your support!

Wow! This chapter is certainly the unexpected deep cut of the album, if you will. The conversation with Estel about wanting to be an Elf was incredible, both from Elrond and Dorhaur's sides. Lots and lots of things unsaid. And now I'm dying to know what they are speaking privately about! Argh, curse you, evil author. I'm also apprehensive about the end of the chapter, and will try yet again to endure the days without knowing ;) Merry Christmas!

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad you liked it -- I was curious at the beginning of it how things would flow, but happy w the way it turned out. :-) I just don't see how it would be possible to be raised as Estel was without feeling this way at least a little bit ... he's got nothing at all to compare, poor kid...
