Giving Thanks  by shirebound 9 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 11/1/2016
Oh, Shirebound--how delicious a story this is, as we rejoice that the world is at peace, and the seemingly evil creatures we see are eager to pretend to be other than they are, but can't help being children and adults in costume, rejoicing to receive treats from friends and neighbors. And I am glad that Fulco did catch a glimpse of Sam with Galadriel's gift in hand, offering the blessing to all of the Shire, now that the great Evil of the day was defeated and joy returned to that peaceful land!

Author Reply: Thank you, my friend. I'm able to see Sam giving his blessing so clearly, I wanted someone else to witness it too -- someone who would catch a sense of its wonder.

What a sweet story - I love most the bit about Sam and the dust - I never wondered about what the blessing was that he said - it would make sense he spoke Elvish. Now I do wonder what his words were!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: It's such a joy to delve into the details of even the smallest moments, isn't it? I love imagining Sam sending that dust off with his blessings, whatever they were.

And it seemed to the children, as their parents spoke the names of hobbits they hadn’t met, but had heard some about, that their piece smelled better, and tasted more delicious, than near any pie they’d ever eaten before.

What a beautiful little story! Thank you very much!

Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea! I'm so happy you liked it. :)

Love it! Nice. Maybe someone'll take some of those delicious treats to Sam Gamgee, seeing as it was the special dust he brought from Lothlorien that helped to heal the Shire!

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed this. It's nice to imagine many baskets of goodies finding their way to Sam, as appreciation for his efforts.

So...I almost teared up a little at that last line. What a wonderful little autumn/Halloween/ Thanksgiving piece. So peaceful -- if only... And that image of Sam...I love that Hobbit, and it was wonderful. Thanks so much for writing! :-)

Author Reply: Thank you. If I could draw (even a little) I'd love to attempt that image of Sam, standing by the Stone, the air all a-sparkle about him. I like to think that the Lady saw him like that in her mirror. :)

A lovely, gentle tale. Thank you for sharing. It reminded me of 'Smith of Wooen Major' too. Speaking of bountiful years...I am still picking raspberries in this corner of Tolkein's Country and County, along with raking leaves. Weird

Author Reply: It's wonderful to hear from you, and I hope you're doing well! Thank you for reading. I love berries *and* crunchy leaves! :)
