Destiny's Child  by Mirkwoodmaiden 3 Review(s)

A nice blending of book, movie, and your own telling. In the book, of course, Theodred died at the Ford, telling his surviving men, "bury me here, I will hold the Ford until Eomer comes". I think the movie's showing him brought home brings him a bit more real to the viewers who had not seen him until then. Then, it gives Grima a chance to emphasise to Eowyn that she is more and more alone. You give both Theodred and Eomer the chance to appeal to Eowyn to keep fighting for them. Now, you have Eomer hauled off to the dungeon, as in the book. I have wondered since the movie, why would Grima dare to merely banish his primary remaining competition after Theodred? Of course, it gives his eored, instead of the men of the Westfold, the chance to ride to the rescue at Helm's Deep later. But now, you have him where the book put him. And you have captured that brilliant moment from the movie where Eowyn scans the horizon and watches the flag falling in the wind, at the other end of her eye-line Aragorn watches the same flag toss along the ground. And yes, three horses and four powerful fighters to the rescue!

Hello! I hope you are well! Thank you so much for the review!

This section has been hard to write because I am trying to blend book, film and my own gap-filling story into a cohesive flowing whole. So many divergent paths are taken as you lay out so well. Some scenes that I love so well in the film such as Eomer's charge down the hill to the King to soaring music always chokes me up but while it works so well visually which is of course why PJ filmed it the way he did it denies me the chance to write about it in the book Eomer gives Theoden his sword after Hama has retrieved him from the dungeon.

Conversely Theodred dying at the fords as in the book denies me a chance for that last painful conversation between Eowyn and Theodred and I needed that because in my story I had built a strong bond between Eowyn and Theodred and I wanted that last conversation.

That last paragraph in my chapter where Eowyn sees the ripping flag (I love scene) gave me the perfect opportunity to blend my gap filling story with the film!

Thanks again for the review!

((Hugs))

Be safe!!

Éomer forestalled his intended actions and merely brushed her temple with a brotherly kiss and whispered, “Let us sally forth my warrior-hearted one.” His heart filled with admiration for her strength that bolstered his own.

I love the strongly-bonded relationship you emphasize between these two.

Horses approaching the gates, at last!

Hello! So good to see your name again. I hope you have been well. ((hugs))

I am really happy Eomer and Eowyn's relationship shows through so well. I think back to that incredibly powerful scene in the ROTK film when Eomer finds Eowyn on battlefield at Pelennor! So moving. In the book when Eowyn has been enveloped by the Black Shadow Tolkien writes that it is Eomer and not Aragorn who can bring Eowyn back from the shadows. Only a strong bond of love and affection can bring that about for Eowyn.

Thanks for as always taking the time to review!
