And Where Are the Children?  by Larner 18 Review(s)
MirkwoodmaidenReviewed Chapter: Epilogue 2 on 12/22/2020
Larner!

I just had a chance to finish this before I embark upon Christmas cookie making! I love this. It was a well-told and well-crafted story. I love that both Frodo and Sam were somehow able to save what they loved from as far away (both literally and figuratively) as Mordor.

You write the relationship between Sam and Frodo so wonderfully well. Sam still solicitous of Frodo and Frodo still gently chiding him for his solicitude and deference. You write about the Shire so well. I can feel its homely ways through your writing. This was a joy to read.

Try to stay safe, Mellon nin!

Author Reply: I regret I didn't note all your responses. I had a surge to my older computer on which I do my email that literally hid my email program for months. I've tried several times to fix things, but only realized how I could find the missing files a few weeks ago, and hadn't gotten to your last few messages until this morning.

I love thinking how Sam grew from Frodo's "little brother" kind of friend to becoming his peer and the nearest brother of his heart, the two of them going to Mordor together and finding they'd survived it all to return home. I rejoice to think that they were allowed to be reunited in Elvenhome and to go on together on their last adventure.

Thanks so for reading this. I so appreciate your comments. God bless you in this new year--may He bless us all!

Larner!

Such a relief that the children have been found. Onto the next chapter! :-)

Author Reply: Yes, they are found, and all will be right with the world once more for them.

And you're writing again! How wonderful! Another lovely Frodo and Sam story of sorting out the Shire and tying up loose ends before Frodo leaves.

Thank you for sharing your stories again.

Author Reply: The last four years have been terribly trying for me, and the knowledge that we will soon be freed of the stain of this administration has helped free me to do more writing. This story has been working at me for a year, and should not have taken so long to write and post! But, at last it is finished and posted, and I rejoice to see it finally being accepted so well.

Thanks so, Freyalyn. I appreciate that so many have been glad to see something new from me.

Larner!

It is good to see Frodo out and about engaging with the world even though we see much of the sadness of the Shire that was left by the hobbits gone wrong and the Big Men.

Frodo understands the pain that Lodo feels. While it is not of the same scale in the larger scheme of things what Lodo has lost is just as painful and devastating as what Frodo has endured. Lodo lost his whole world, his farm, his family. Very sad. These are the often overlooked costs of war and upheaval.

This story is wonderfully crafted. I am really enjoying it!

Stay safe, Mellon nin

Author Reply: Thank you so, Mirkwoodmaiden. Such loss as Frodo and Lodo have each experienced still seems equal to those who have lost so much as these have.

I am honored!

What an unexpectedly hope-filled Yule for all of them, and I wish the same hope and joy for all of us as well. Thank you for a lovely story.

Author Reply: And thank you for all the comments, Shirebound. A joyous holiday season to us all!

Don’t you see, Sam? Somehow we managed to guard what we loved most in the Shire

Wow, what an awesome and wonderful idea.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you think so, too, Shirebound. Thanks so!

Oh my. So Sherlock Baggins is gathering the clues! (I love the idea of Frodo as a detective.) I have my suspicions, but you've fooled me before, so I won't hazard any guesses.

Author Reply: He finds more than he expects in the end. Heh!

Oh, this sounds like quite the mystery! And you do mysteries so well...

Author Reply: Good to hear from you, my lady! Thanks! Hope you enjoy it to the end!

And the Goblin King is, at last, on his way out! Halleluia!

And when my Aunt Dora visited us, the stars forbid any utensil should be even slightly out of place.

Stars forbid indeed! :)

I like the simple description of the King as "the best of Men". For the hobbits who believe in the King, knowing that will be a relief.

Author Reply: After all, we all tend to think of Dora as a Stickler for Propriety and Proper Decorum, right? Heh!
