| Oh, I love these descriptions of the Valar... especially So Eru chose Manwë for his heart, which always responded to hatred with calm lovingness, never with war, patiently allowing restoration of the sacred... Somehow, it resonates in my brain with Gandalf. Yes, the Wizard was irascible, but his love also shone through in all his endeavors, even as he urged the Fellowship to fly to safety before turning back to confront the Balrog, or his approach to the healing of Théoden. He did not initiate hostilities, but he certainly met them while conveying an impression of inner calm (rather like wielding the power of a hurricane while inwardly maintaining the calm to be found at its center?). I'm distracted and putting it badly, I fear. | |
