Hope is Kindled  by Mirkwoodmaiden 3 Review(s)
LindeleaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/31/2025
Young Estel is a whirlwind! Considering the relative rarity of children in Elven life, or so I've heard, the Elves must treasure him and enjoy watching him grow and learn.

Elrond is very good with the child. I also find myself wondering, in his interactions with Estel over the years, if he sometimes sees the ghost of his long-dead brother in Estel's face or gestures.

Alas, poor Gilraen.

I love hearing Gandalf's thoughts about the present day and the hoped-for future. Lovely story!

Estel is indeed the light of life to the Elves of Imladris. I think there were children in Imladris at one time but as this is their winter of time and are about to leave for the undying lands after what will be the Ring War that no children have been born for a very long time. So Estel brings life! And so much life!

Elrond does love Estel as his own son. This is more developed in "The Heir Apparent"...yes I am always trying to get you to read my stories! LOL! Because you have "nothing else" to occupy your time! LOL

I have always been fascinated by Gilraen, "I gave hope to the world; I kept no hope for myself" It is amazing how Tolkien can with one sentence can capture interest in a character. You with Beregrond and "Ah an old campaigner, I see." And me with Gilraen. She gave so much and had so much taken. As did Elrond. **Another shameless plug ALERT**! I touch upon the bond they have in "A Heart Seeks Solace." All enough of the self promotion! Have a wonderful day!

That was a fun little adventure! Estel does seem to be a very rambunctious child - he is certainly livening things up in Rivendell. :-)

It is a difficult question, how to raise him to be Chieftain of the Dunedain when he is being functionally raised as an Elf. I’m sure they had to take great care with it…

Yes they would had to have! My version of this takes place in my story called "The Heir Apparent" this short story is actually chapter 10 in that book long story!

Glad you enjoyed it!

Dear Mirkwoodmaiden!
Thanks for posting this story. And the change in timeline is really interesting. Who doesn't like Gandalf and young Estel having some fun together?
BTW is this one of your old stories that you've reposted? It really has the older flavour, of the times when young Estel stories were really popular on this site.

Thanks for writing and reading! I thought about it and the change really doesn't change anything and as you say who doesn't like a little Gandalf and young Estel having fun, also I think it strengthen their bond even more!

This is one of my stories that got deleted in the "Great Breach of January 2025" so I reposted it.

I do have other young Estel stories that weren't deleted. "Lessons" and "Shards of Memory" are when Estel is 10.

Thanks for reading and writing. It is very appreciated!

MM
