Oh my. This story brought me to tears. (I seem to be saying that a lot, lately.)

Nob is so hobbity, as he ought to be, and Aragorn sounds both Kingly and Rangerish. I choked at his remembrance of Frodo and Sam, for of course the younger Travellers would have drawn more attention than the gardener and his Master, who withdrew from Shire society and then sailed away. (Does Nob know he sailed away?)

I'm struck again by the smallest of happenstances, the details JRRT included, and the possible repercussions of different choices made. Had Nob not gone out in search of Merry, what terrible things might have happened? (shudder)

The faces on the coins, and Nob's not associating Strider's face with the King, drove home the simplicity of many of the Shire-folk. I hope he's like Strider. High praise, indeed (and deep irony, into the bargain).

I don't know if I read this long ago and forgot, or if this is one of your stories I missed, but I could almost bless the Breach of 2025 for bringing it to my attention.

(((hugs)))

Author Reply: Thank you for your lovely comments! Once the idea for this story grabbed hold of me, I couldn't let it go. Dear Nob, such a simple yet very important part of the Great Tale.

(((YOU)))

Oh, this was so lovely! I love scenes of Aragorn at the Prancing Pony and with the people of Bree. It is good to see him remember them as well, even if he wasn’t able to be there to help them during the Troubles…. Thx so much for reposting!

Author Reply: Thank you! I enjoy revisiting our favorite folks, and especially imagining that no good deed goes unrewarded.

Shirebound!

What a lovely little vignette! I love these little bits of story that you know probably happened! I love that even though he doesn't know that Aragorn is indeed King he feels comfort nonetheless by the King's hand. A wonderful little detail! Thank you for re-posting. I know it has been a headache for the administrators but the Great Breach of January 2025 has brought me stories I either forgot or hadn't seen! That has been the positive upshot of it all!

(((hugs)))

Author Reply: Thank you, my friend. It's such a joy to bring Nob back for his own "kingly encounter" and happily-ever-after. Many hugs right back at you!

This is such a sweet story and I'm happy you decided to repost it. As others have said, the Breach had the unintended good consequence of giving us the opportunity of revisiting old stories.

Author Reply: Thank you for rereading! :)
