How I love to see Frodo honored! And that Sam does so here seems eminently fitting, even as I remember that Sam is due a wealth of honor himself. Frodo conducting the ceremony seems very right. The magic is wonderful! Frodo-lad has made wise use of Gimli's gift, I think, as part of showing his love for his beloved. And their wedding vows are perfect. If this has to be your final story, I love that you mention here their "long and happy life together". Merry and Pippin! And glowing bells on their collars. A very satisfying ending, my friend. And they all lived happily ever after. (((hugs))) Author Reply: Thank you, dear friend. Your reviews are so wonderful and encouraging. I do suspect that this will have been my final story, but... we'll see what the future brings. If it is, I also am very glad that this tale brings such a happily-ever-after. I loved writing this so very much.

Very wise of you, Sam. Presents at early breakfast might mean that chores don't get done! I love this about your universe: Frodo closed his eyes for a moment, overcome with gratitude. The Shire safe, that's all I ever wanted, he thought. And for Sam to be back home and happy, Bilbo's heart to be at peace, and Aragorn with everything he deserves after all he's done. And now here we sit, and it's all come to pass. Sitting there reminiscing, they remind me of old soldiers talking over old times. Smoke-ring contests! How delightful! (and a poignant reminder of Gandalf...) What a wonderful shower of gifts! So many thoughtful presents. I especially love the message for Frodo-lad that Elessar sent with his gift to Hollyhock. And you show his tender heart, so much like his father's, beautifully. I love the detail of crunching biscuits and wagging tails. I have to say, though in our Panda-pup's case, after she "unwrapped" her first-ever Christmas present, she rather formed the idea that there might be treats for her in all the presents, and so she stuck her nose in to closely supervise the unwrapping of every present after that point. Ooo, a magical sort of invisible ink! And I love this unexpected gift the Lady gave to Gimli. And from your descriptions of Frodo-lad, I think he is worthy of being trusted with the secret. Author Reply: Thank you for your lovely review! I absolutely adored writing this chapter, full of gifts and surprises and pups and joy. Because of my ongoing hand and wrist issues I knew this was going to be the last story I wrote (for the foreseeable future, anyway), and really wanted to fill it with all the things I love.

p.s. the grotto sounds like a lovely, refreshing, restorative place. Author Reply: *beams* Everyone needs their own 'happy place'.

I love the detail that Gimli has lighter boots to change into. (And I love that he notices the table set for 13, and the number makes him smile.) O yes, all of our dogs have been quite hobbity: furry feet and never missed a meal if they could help it. I am so glad for Frodo! (What a large and loving family he had found!) Mmm, that meal sounds wonderful. I haven't cooked at all for several days, but I'm almost tempted. Frodo-lad's admiration for the Lady must have touched Gimli's heart deeply. And I love the Dwarf's honouring Sam and Frodo's accomplishments. O! I can hardly wait to learn what the Dwarf-secret is! (hugs) Author Reply: Thank you for the hugs, and your much-appreciated comments. In all of fanfic, the belief that friendships endure and that our hobbits live joyful lives after their hard trials make me happiest. And I do love writing (and reading) about feasts!

I love that quote that introduces this chapter. The reunion with Merry and Pippin was funny and touching and poignant. I especially loved Pippin's aside to Merry about feeding the Rangers! And then the welcoming scene at Bag End was all that I could wish for, and more. There's so much of "comfort" in this story. Very soothing in stressful times, too. (Youngest Cat has fallen ill rather suddenly, and I'm very worried about the little scamp.) And something of a cliffhanger at the end, but a happy one, it seems. I will look forward to reading more, hopefully tomorrow. (((hugs))) Author Reply: Hugs right back at you, my friend, and I'm sending gentle loves and scritches your sweet kittie. It's such a joy to write (and read) comfort and hobbity banter. :)

Reading, I remember clearly the joy to be found in savoring a "Shirebound" story. Your descriptions immerse me in the story. The touches of humor (Dwarf feet!) add depth and life. The characterizations are spot-on: Gimli almost carelessly holding the heavy hammer, Elessar's kindness and consideration and his way of honoring his hobbit friends, Pilin's eagerness. And the dialogue is perfectly in character, to my mind. ...I can well imagine "a hobbit thinking about things like that". (LOL, my own Frodo-lad married a lass named "Burrows", though she was a Daisy rather than a Hollyhock. Do you remember that time when we simultaneously published stories featuring Frodo and a small dog? LOL, and not too long after I had that thought and added it to this review, I read further in this chapter and came upon your mention of "Scamp"! Yes, Scamp it was!) Although this is in your AU setting, somehow I find comfort that not all Elvish magic will be gone from the world so long as the phial of Galadriel remains. I guess the same could be said about the AU I wrote where Frodo stayed in the Shire, though I never thought about it before. (((hugs))) to you, my friend. Author Reply: And (((hugs))) to you, my friend! What a wonderful Journey we've been on, imagining and sharing these Tales. Thank you for your lovely comments.

Frodo-lad is so great. That yearning for the enchantment in the world is a special gift - one not many others will understand, as I’m sure he’s learning. Author Reply: His yearning mirrors my own, which may be one of the things that drew me to Middle-earth in the first place.
