Ah, Feanor. So sure if himself, always. I always think he’s got red hair, but that’s Maedhros. I guess it’s just his fiery personality …

I know nothing of Elessars before LOTR, but this was really interesting! I enjoyed this glance into history…

Author Reply: Thanks! Fëanor is described as having raven-dark hair in the published Silmarillion. :) I actually think this suits him better—his fire burns within and should manifest in other ways.

OMG yes that's funny, and now I'm glad you referenced the Silmaril making process. And you've added another reason to the already growing list of why I should read the Lost Tales. I never would've dreamed that we could find hair remedies in the legendarium 😂

Your stories are getting better and better, and I'm glad you seem to be writing lots of them lately. I hope you save yourself copies in case this website makes them disappear again -- I'm not so sure it's completely fixed yet. Anyway, this one is fantastic. Your description and portrayal of Feanor is compelling.

If I remember correctly (and I've read all of your previous stories), this is the first one you've written in the first person, and that gets it so much closer to the reader's mind and heart, although you manage to do that pretty well in third person too.

How the Elessar came to Aragorn was always a little murky, but it makes perfect sense to me that Maedhros would give his Elessar to Fingon, given their close friendship. And it also makes sense that Enerdhil would give his Elessar to Idril, since she was Fingon's niece.

Author Reply: Thanks! I guess the love shows. ;)))

I actually have another first-person fic, The Breach in the Walls, but that was written so long ago and has so many language issues that I don’t even think I could fix it at this point. 😅

We've had one, yes, but what about Second Elessar?

Ok, I'll be serious now. Your take on the history of the Elessar is quite plausible, and I'm going to adopt it as my headcanon. In fact, it is difficult to otherwise reconcile the conflicting narratives, how on earth would the Elessar in possession of Fingon be transferred to Idril?
I love your take on Enerdhil, he is such a rare character in fanfictions (I don't think I've ever read an Enerdhil centered fic).
I've long waited for you to take on Feanor himself, and you've certainly exceeded expectations. Your Feanor shows that heady mix of charisma, arrogance and utter brilliance and seems to have stepped straight out the Silmarillion.

“𝘈 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴. 𝘞𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘸ë’𝘴 𝘌𝘺𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘝𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘢’𝘴 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳, 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘶𝘰𝘶𝘴?”

He is so secure in the knowledge that he alone is greatest of the Noldor, yet seems to know where to draw the line (at least before he tipped over the edge).

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴: 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘨𝘦𝘮 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘥, 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥.

This line is interesting. Am I correct in interpreting that unlike Enerdhil who would have to draw on things imbued with the power of the Valar to impart healing power to the Elessar, Feanor would be able to create it on its own, perhaps through the power of his own fea?

Author Reply: That line actually refers to the recipe for making the Silmarils listed in The Lost Tales! Of course, it was hilariously fairy-tale-like—just like the ingredients required for the hair-growing spell Lúthien used. But I found it amusing and decided to reference it here 😂

Author Reply: And I’m glad you like my depiction of Fëanor! I’ve always envisioned him as intensely charismatic, and I wanted to present him through a child’s eyes—where his flaws are evident, yet softened by his passion and love.
