That was so sweet! Poor Frodo. He really had a rough start in life, it makes sense why he is already quite somber compared to his cousins even before he leaves the Shire. Such wonderful attention to details! I had never considered that the Gamgees would be illiterate, but it makes sense. That was so lovely, and I'm so glad you're reposting the works that we're lost. I know it's a really sad thing, but I probably would never have discovered some of the treasures I'm reading now if they weren't being reposted.

Not to worry, Frodo - you’ll be seeing little Sam a lot! Lovely little tale. I’m so sorry you lost your stories and reviews in the Breach, and glad you’re posting them again!

I love the little details you sprinkle through the text, making the story come to life. For example: ...at Bilbo’s urging, Frodo took the empty basket. The air felt frigid, but fortunately, there was no wind. Stars studded the velvety-black sky. Since the Gamgees were unlettered, there were no name labels on any of the gifts. I hadn't thought of that! Fortunately, Bilbo was able to determine from their sizes and shapes which present went to whom; he had made sure to lay their presents at the top when he had packed the basket. Such a practical approach. I'm not at all surprised that Bilbo remembers exactly which present should go to which Gamgee. He regretted that he didn’t have his own presents to give them as well. He is such a thoughtful lad, even at his tender age. I love that Sam starts cooing the moment Frodo holds him. It sounds as if tiny baby Sam is already offering comfort to his future Master.
