Hi Admin
I tried reaching you earlier in the year.
I noticed that Fiondil’s lovely story, ‘Christmas at Edhellond’ seems to have gone missing. As Fiondil is no longer with us is there any way that it can be restored?
Many thanks, Liz

Author Reply: Hello, Liz!

The SoA site manager wasn't able to recover any of the lost stories after that January hack. Some authors re-uploaded their deleted material. Some readers have offered to send stories they had downloaded so that they could be restored to the site. Would you happen to know anyone who might still have a copy of "Christmas at Edhellond"? You can reach me through the email link on my author's page, and I can coordinate with the site manager to re-upload the story if someone can send me a copy of it.

Thanks,
Lin

I was hoping that Stories of Arda had managed to escape the spammers, but no such luck. They've already flooded Fanfiction.net and made their way to Archive of Our Own, and now they've come to Stories of Arda. I've had to adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding the spammers on Ao3 myself, which I carry out by blocking them. But there's no way for us authors to block them here, is there?

Author Reply: Hello, KathyG,

Thanks for the confirmation. I have to admit, I didn't know it was a "thing", except that someone I know who reads at AO3, saw the SoA announcement and told me it was going around, which is why I amended the original post.

The admins consulted the site manager about the issue. Unfortunately, there currently doesn't seem to be a way for authors to block spammers, though the admins do have the ability to inactivate the accounts of users who create accounts for the purpose of spamming rather than reading.

(Also, I sent you an email just now on a different topic.)

Hugs,
Lin

These spammers have been harassing us not only on Archive of Own, but also on Fanfiction.net.

Author Reply: It's frustrating, even maddening. But we'll just keep on keeping on and not let them take up space in our brains. They don't deserve it.

"an archive of lovingly crafted fanfiction"

It certainly is, and may it always be so. Thank you for this announcement.
