*sniffle* I'm trying very hard to be happy for their decision, but much like Elrond I know it's little more than a mask. What an awful letter to receive, not only does it tell of two deaths, but two as good as deaths as well. I really feel for him as a parent that he must outlive all of his children. Truly at times the Valar are cruel, and Elrond always seems to catch the brunt of it. I wonder if he had stayed longer whether it would have changed their decision? Or whether he could have influenced them at a young age to accept immortality. Obviously in your world it didn't happen, but this situation does get one wondering about all the whatifs. Very exhuasting, emotional fic and very brilliantly done, Cathy, xx Author Reply: I've also considered whether Elrond could have influenced any of his kids to choose immortality. I think he was probably tempted but he's just too much of a nice guy to do it :) I think he wanted them to understand how both elves and men lived so they could make their own informed decision later on. And thanks for the review!

OK. This is one of the saddest stories I've ever read and I can't pretend that the twins' decisin makes me happy, even if Elrond is trying to do that. Poor Elrond! Must he lose everything? Author Reply: Poor Elrond. And, yes, he must because I'm evil that way :)

This was a lovely story, but so sad. Although I'm not sure what decision Elladan and Elrohir made at the end, I'm certain they chose the same fate. I like their reasons for choosing mortality in this story, it makes sense, but I feel so sad for Elrond, waiting for their arrival and getting a letter instead. Jay Author Reply: Thank you - I think I talked myself into their decision as I wrote it so I'm pleased it makes sense.

Amazingly written! I feel terribly bad for Elrond having to face the loss of his children in this manner. Imagine knowing the fact that your children were gifted with immortality but choose to follow the mortal path and that you as a parent would outlive your young. Such grief he feels must be immense. It saddens me more to know that they will not join together even when Elladen and Elohir pass into the halls of mandos--since they would be counted amongst as men, and not reborn as an elf and return to them in the Undying lands, similar to that of Arwens situation. I hope Celebrian can handle the news...she had not seen her children for far longer than Elrond has since she sailed to the undying lands a long time ago. Please continue writing this brilliantly thought up piece! I look forward to your next update :) Author Reply: I admit I wasn't thinking of Celebrian too much when I wrote it but that's a good point. Perhaps it will be a little better knowing they have each other. I can't help feeling that Elrond could have steered them onto the path of immortality when they were young but I think he chose to let them see both sides and make up their own minds. And that's the price he has to pay for being selfless. Sorry, that was it! There's no more in that story, although doubtless there will be more angst for Elrond in his future :)
