Hi Morwen, I suspect part of the reason you're getting little feedback is Lightfoot. (Though this is purely speculation.) It was a bit of an immediate turn off for me to have a character, especially a female OC, added into that a portion of the journey. I rather enjoy the camaraderie that is built up as the four Hobbit struggle to reach Bree on their own, but if a character had to be added, I would have preferred Strider simply enter the story sooner. On the bright side, she seems like a well-written character and the writing in general is good. Author Reply: Thank you, Karri, that is exactly what I wanted to know. I thought maybe the problem was the movie canon, but I have gathered that female OCs can be quite a turn off - even if they're not 'Mary-Sues' which I don't *think* Lightfoot is, though now that I reflect on it she does skate a bit close to the line.... I can see your point about male bonding and all, but basically I was trying to explain why they don't have the barrow swords in the movie and where Aragorn gets the swords he does give them. | |
