And if he did not find the way, no one could. The steel in the heart of this Hobbit was refined indeed by the end. It was a burden none should have expected to have borne.

Author Reply: Isn't that an amazing scene? I still can't read the quietly spoken, "I will take the ring..." without getting all emotional.

Another amazing round of chapters! I love your explaination of how Elrond and Co. healed Frodo... and Aragorn calling him back again! How cool! I think that your theory is probably as close to the mark as anyone will ever come because it makes SO much Sense.

Only 2 more chapters to go, but not tonight. :)

Author Reply: Thank you, Dayna. I wanted to write this story partly because so many things in the Professor's Tale were unexplained in the text (such as how Frodo was healed by Elrond, and why it took so long). It's fun to read different folks' interpretations of the same events.

Hi Janet
Lovely to find a new chapter.
I can imagine 'your' Aragorn being horrified that Frodo should take on the burden of carrying the ring...he must have desperatly wanted him to be safe back in the Shire.

...and Sam sussing out that they had hidden protectors was a lovely touch.

Even if I don't manage to review on a regular basis, I am still reading and enjoying your story. This chapter had some nice links to 'Quarantine' and your brief description of the Council of Elrond itself was marvellous. No re-telling of a well-known tale, but a brief glimpse into various people's heads.

And, of course, every Hobbit was smitten with Arwen's appearance ;-)

Smitten hobbits! Now you have me wondering if Bilbo was any better when he first met Arwen! Telling Frodo to remember his manners and poor Sam nearly falling head over heels...I loved it.

I like how you covered the council - not retelling what Tolkien did, but showing a different POV. Poor Sam must have been bewildered! And I love that the dwarves were far from Legolas, although that just makes me laugh when we realize the undying friendship between such unlikely people that developed between the elf and the dwarf. Wonderful, wonderful. Will you take this story through the start of the quest?
