By Chance or Purpose  by shirebound 3 Review(s)

Such a cute chapter here! I loved the entire debate over what to call Strider ending with the decision to go with Strider! The playful banter between the hobbits was most amusing. The whole conversation about Frodo being mistreated in Buckland and often insulted definitely hit home- I was bullied pretty much the entirety of grade school. Mercifully, those years are long gone- almost ten years now- but it was a miserable time and I, like Frodo, was always extremely angry about it, especially in high school- I think I used to rant about school all the time on my high school LJ because I hated it so much. I also very much feel the same way as he if one of my friends is being insulted since being bullied is really, really horrible!

Author Reply: Bullying is so abusive and damaging, and I'm incredibly sorry to know that you were subjected to it for so long. *hugs*

Your reviews are reminding me how much time, energy, and love went into writing this story. I was very proud of it, and am so happy to know you're enjoying it all over again.

So, you, too, see Pippin as the self-appointed jester and lightener of moods. I've always seen him that way, myself, you know.

And love the easy friendship here. Poor Pippin--wearing himself out here.

Author Reply: I do see Pippin as caught between childhood and almost-adult. He matures so much on this journey.

More excellent characterization. Merry and Pippin being seen through a fresh set of eyes, and proving themselves worthy kinsmen to Frodo's old friend. Very nice.
