All of the details required to feed so many hungry mouths. the Shire-folk pulled together to help each other through. Well done. And, you mean he does NOT have his uncle and everyone else wrapped up? Very nice!

I have gotten some behind reading this. i loved the cousins needling each other and Sam. Very nicely in character. The song becomes such a delightful wedding gift!1 I am sure Mama Cotton forgave Merry, eventually!

"Ponies saddled already? He must start being stricter with the rascal; Peregrin seemed to think he had his uncle wrapped neatly around his little finger. All right, then, he would start on the morrow. But today, he intended to enjoy himself." Saradoc *is* wrapped around Pippin's wee finger, as are most of the lad's relatives :) I'm fearing a relapse on Merry's part, which I don't think will bode well for his father either. On with the tale!

"He stood a long time gazing into the face of his sleeping son." This whole chapter has a very beautiful, haunting quality to it - hard to describe, and this last sentence is just perfect. Wonderfully done, Lin. Artistry. Author Reply: Thank you so very much, Pearl. (Takes one to know one.)

'The fruit never falls far from the tree.' and 'Like father, like son.!' You can definitely see Merry's parentage in this chapter. It is awful loving so much and not being able to do anything but stand by and watch. No nightmares and sleepwalking is an excellent sign that things are slowly getting better. Author Reply: Things are getting better. I think Frodo's little talk with Merry has set him on the right path. Too bad Frodo couldn't do as much for himself. *sigh*

'Yes, he is bright...' Merry said absently. He smiled. 'His name is Jewel.' He turned to meet his older cousin's gaze. For the first time in a long time, Frodo's smile went all the way to his eyes. ********** Oh! Just so wonderful! I love it all. Poor sweet pony, I'm glad he'll have one of the best homes in the Shire :) Author Reply: Oh, yes, he'll go from hell to paradise... except that he'll have to put up with unusual hours, seeing as how his new master is half owl. Thanks!

Nice little bits of the Cotton family character. it seems only right that the sons inherited their father's feel for living things. I always knew they were my faorite hobbit family. Delicious description of breakfast! Author Reply: The Cottons are your favourite hobbit family? What a lovely thing to say! (I do love the glimpse we got of the farmer in the original, during the scouring of the Shire.) I got to know them a little better in "A Small and Passing Thing" and found them to be "salt of the earth", as my grandmother used to say. *g*

Brilliant Lindelea. To see the potential in the used and abused is a rare gift. I am glad that Frodo is there to be part of this redemption Author Reply: Yes, Frodo was an essential part; he'd understand better than any other, I think. Thanks!

I am glad that the two of them collaborated on this wonderful song! I bet Rose won't be too upset when she finds out what it was composed on! Author Reply: I can't imagine Rose being upset, though her mother might be! (As it is, the tablecloth ends up in the Mathom House at Michel Delving, sort of a national museum piece.) *g*

I love the song :) :) :) Three cheers for Sam and Rosie!! *and for Lindelea too ;)* Author Reply: Ah, we loves the cheers, we do. Very heartening, i'm sure. (Especially when the writing is not going at all well. But that is nothing new.) *hugs* and thanks for coming along for the ride.
