This and That  by Lindelea 243 Review(s)

Ah, how we all are inspired by others! The King HAS returned, but footpads still need to be dealt with in the here and now!

Author Reply: Indeed we are! I still remember the sense of wonder I had when JoDancingTree introduced me to fanfiction, and I realized that people were writing all these wonderful stories filling in the gaps the Professor left (or continuing the story, one that I never wanted to end). And then I began to read on ff (dot) net, and I shyly asked Shirebound about my own story idea, and she encouraged me to write it down and post it! I treasure the rich interactions I've had with authors as a reader and with readers as an author, sharing ideas and exploring nuances and deeper issues together over the years. Some voices have fallen silent, and others have moved on; though I miss them, I'm glad to have known them. The LOTR fanfic community has been such a wonderful, supportive, inspiring group of people... definitely a treasure trove.

When I first started working on this little response to Dreamflower's first posting, I had all sorts of ideas for Merry's and Pippin's adventurous trip from the Bridge to Bree... perhaps running to several chapters... When I realized I had neither the energy nor the time for what I wanted to do, I then thought, "What would be the next best thing?" And so, surprising Pippin with a host of Tookish archers to cramp his style, er, protect him from waylaying ruffians, seemed just the thing.

Thanks for reading and stopping to leave a good word.

This is utterly fantastic and so moving. I love that Aragorn and Beregond met before the battle.

Author Reply: Thank you! It has made sense to me almost since before I began to write fanfiction stories that Beregond would prefer to seek his death in battle. I would love to read a longer story based on that notion someday. I have so many WIPs myself, I daren't take on another one, no matter how intriguing, so I will hope to find it published, either already in some archive, or in some future posting.

I appreciate your reading and stopping to leave a good word.

What a lovely gift for Dreamflower's anniversary. Long live our beloved hobbits!

Author Reply: Amen! Long may they live and their stories endure.

(I cannot quite believe it's been twenty years. Where has the time gone?)

Thank you, my friend, for stopping to leave a good word or three.

Good ol' Sam! Always helping out those who need it without thought of himself. Glad the passenger saw who the best Hobbit for the job was. Wonderfully written, as usual!

Author Reply: Thank you! So good to hear from you. I hope you are keeping well.

A wonderful tale to come out of the hospital to read. I'll give you the details when I can. Lovely details!

Author Reply: O my gosh!!! I was so flabbergasted by your call. I'm so glad you're on the mend!

Hugs. Get well soon.

Lindelea!

I somehow missed this! What a lovely story. And so like Sam always humble and wanting to be fair. Never letting on who he was and respecting the older hobbit's opinion. Nice to see that the old hobbit appreciated Frodo as Mayor so few in the Shire seemed to truly appreciate Frodo. A lovely little story!

Hope you are feeling better!

Stay Safe!

((hugs))

Author Reply: Hugs back at you! Yes, feeling better. It's amazing what avoiding butter can accomplish.

I have cut back my work schedule for tomorrow (Sunday) in hopes of reading more of your lovely writing. (Here's hoping nothing urgent comes in, though it appears my inbox may get slammed on Monday, so I need to read while the reading's good, to mangle a cliche.)

Thank you so much for the encouraging words! I have several stories itching away in the back of my mind, in addition to the WIPs that are sitting sadly and wistfully gazing at me whenever I sign in to SoA. I keep hoping that the Muse will cooperate one of these days...

Blessings to you and yours. Keep safe, with all this crazy weather and while we wait for vaccinations to become more generally available. And once more, ((hugs))

But no boasting on his part. Just simple, practical action. He might’ve driven right by a problem when he saw it, as so many others had, as the old hobbit had sat despondently in the dust by the side of the road just a few hours earlier – but he hadn’t.

Wonderful. Thank you for this lovely and timely story, my friend. Which of us can ever really know the *best* choice? But we can make the better choice as we see it.

Author Reply: Thank you, dear friend. This one percolated for some weeks, I'll admit. What's that old saying about "best" being the enemy of "better"? Something like that. In this case, of course, I think the old hobbit voted for the best candidate, though Sam's good sense would never allow him to claim that particular title. :)

Hugs to you and yours. Stay safe.

My beloved husband more than once dreamed of owning a bar, to which I kept appearing to agree whilst in reality going, "NO! NO, NO, NOOOOOO!!!" in the quiet of my mind, and finding--diversions so that the idea never came to fruition. And it was precisely THIS kind of conversation I was trying so hard to avoid!

Oh, but the Beris of this world do dither when they're drunk, don't they? Heh! Love this, and had to reread the last one while I was at it.

Author Reply: LOL! I can't imagine wanting to own a bar. A pub, on the other hand... Complete with elderly Labrador making its way from table to table, politely offering to dispose of remnants on the plates. Now that, I might be able to contemplate.

Lindelea!

Absolutely lovely to see a posting from you!! :-)) Delightful little vignette. I seem to remember a fair few parties as such! LOL! Misspent adulthood in England. LOL! Ahhh! the circular conversations of the slightly (or not so slightly) inebriated. I can just see Pippin holding forth with the fun stories of their "abroad" shall we say. As it is with all warriors. They talk of the good times and try to bury the bad times. Lovely!

Thank you for this!

Stay Safe, Mellon nin!

((hugs))

Author Reply: Ah, yes, those were the days. And we can hope for good times to come, and a time when all the troubles of today are firmly in the rearview mirror, so to speak.

Happy New Year to you and yours! Stay safe, and (((hugs)))
