At the End of His Rope  by Lindelea 244 Review(s)

I can't believe I've finished reading. What a truly awesom tale. I'm going to read A Healer's Tale next. The way I'm going, I might not read anything else for a very long time. Your stories are too wonderful to miss.

Is there a story about Jack and Wil after they recovered from their injuries?

Tari

Author Reply: Ah, bless you for your encouragement. It makes the Muse smile, and helps the new writing flow a little easier. (Don't know how I managed to write a chapter or three a day for so long... I'm lucky to have one new chapter a week, these days. All the rest being posted are beta-edited chapters.)

Well, a sort of sequel to Just Desserts would be found in Dreamflower's Bunny. Jack and his "boys" make their appearance in the parts of the story that act as frames for the main tale. It takes place not long after Just Desserts ends.

And I certainly hope you enjoy Healer's Tale. It was one that I very much enjoyed writing, and was sorry to end.

Thanks much for your taking the time to share your thoughts.

"'You don't have to do what he did,' Sam said. 'We've each been given our own row to hoe, you know. If we start looking at the weeds in the other fellow's row, we're likely to miss our own weeds, or start chopping out the good plants.' He looked at the other in silence, then added, 'I'd say you've been doing a fair job with the row you've been given."

A take off on Gandalf. I love it. Sam definitely is wise.

Now, one to more of this wonderful tale.

Tari

Author Reply: I hadn't thought of it being Gandalf-y, but you're right.

Thanks!

I had tears in my eyes along with Sam. What a touching chapter. Maybe now the Hobbits will simply say Thank You. The debt owed them can never be fully paid if only they could understand.

Tari

Author Reply: Yes, and I must give much credit to Jodancingtree, who helped me with this chapter. I think that perhaps the hobbits are beginning to understand.

Thanks!

What a beautiful ceremony shared by all. I love the Hobbits almost as much as the Elves. They're adorable. Glad to see food is close at hand. To many have died already.

Tari

Author Reply: Thank you! The food arrived at a good time, in good time.

As I continued to read this delightful tale, I came to the part where Sam requested from Strider bottles with tight stoppers. Will he fill them with the magical Ent water from Fanghorn? That might be just the ticket to heal Pippin. Guess I'll have to continue reading to find out.

Author Reply: Well, thank you!

Methinks that yon Tari is a very astute reader.

The blessing given with the gifts was so special. Pippin's blessing was the final touch. Loved it.

Author Reply: Thanks!

I don't think I told you this until now, but I find your Naming Day customs simply wonderful, charming, funny, and very touching!

Author Reply: Belated thanks! I tried to make them as hobbity as I could imagine.

What a wonderful chapter! Very insightful and moving.
I, too, know the grief and guilt, even, of losing (or fearing to lose) the memories of loved ones that are gone. The anguish of not remembering their voices any longer, the faces that seem to blur and become indistinct in memory. And how helpful and reassuring it is to talk with others about that person, how the memories can become clearer once again.

Author Reply: Again, thanks for your feedback. It is good to talk with others, to look through old pictures, to exchange stories and to sing songs. We still do that on occasion in my family, remembering our parents and our brother who have gone before.

I did the same as Sam when reading the "bill".

Author Reply: Yes, I'd hoped that would be the result. I think it a fitting tribute to Frodo, and how difficult it must have been to the Men of Rohan and Gondor that he wouldn't take any kind of reward for what he did.

Do you really think the Tooks, or Pippin in particular, would control and/or censor letters? I have to admit, even the suggestion shocked me.

Author Reply: I don't know that it would be a common practice, but considering how the Tooks isolated themselves in the time of the ruffians, I thought it might be a possibility. Not really censoring, so much as keeping an eye on what news leaked out what with the gossipy nature of hobbits. The last thing Pippin wanted was for Merry to come charging in to rescue him, compromising his position even more than it already was. I think he might have kept a discreet eye on Meliloc's communications, might even have talked to Meliloc about not alarming Merry.

I thought I'd answered this review before now, for I think I remember reading it in my email, but I don't see a reply posted. Thanks so much for your feedback.
