This is hilarious! Poor Gandalf never got a word in edgewise. No one does hobbit humor like you... their voices were so well done and I could almost see the scene playing out before me eyes.

". . . thinking of ancient prophecies and the queer creatures that were hobbits." A very powerful last line, Budgie! These just get better and better! It would be hard for an immortal to keep in mind our very different views and attitudes toward time. I don't blame Pip at all for not wanting to take an icy cold bath!

“once they take possession of your heart, they never give it back.” That's so very true! I'm one of their "victims" ;-) While Gandalf was trying to tell his story I waited for him to explode any moment. Sometimes hobbits can be VERY disrespectful AND cheeky! But it is clearly seen that Gandalf loves his hobbits. Thank you for this wonderful series!

I do love Gimli! Gimli and hobbits is even better. I'm sure he would be wonderfully warm and toasty. I'm sure their trustfulness would be a surprise, though I'm sure he wouldn't find it so much so in the Shire! LOL Well done, Budgie!

Where have I been, Budgie? I thought sure I had read the early chapters of this, decided to check and make sure only to find I hadn't. I'm very sorry I've not been reading from the start. This was wonderful! Great fun and yes, the poor man has a lot to learn about Hobbits. I loved Frodo's calm solution - Threaten them with missing a meal! Wonderfully done!!

“I had never heard you tell that tale. It varies slightly from the one our friend Bilbo tells.” The darkness hid Aragorn’s features, but the wizard could hear the smile in his voice. *echoing Aragorn's smile* I am not sure that we have really heard Gandalf's version of that tale even now. But his realisations about the hobbits are sooooo true.

He told a story? I didn't hear the Wizard tell ANYTHING! That wasn't a story--it was a single, prolonged interruption, and the toffees failed to glue mouths shut long enough to allow anything! And it's obvious both Gandalf and Aragorn are both besotted with Hobbits! Heh!

I love how, in all of your stories, you portray Frodo as the hobbit-in-charge, always aware of the younger hobbits' concerns, and how his cousins are behaving (or mis-behaving). It's pleasant to think that even on the quest, the hobbits occasionally had enough to eat. I was just re-reading this story recently, so I'm especially glad to see the final chapter -- though not glad it *is* the final chapter! I wouldn't mind a second round of chapters from the Big People's points of view. [And while you're working on in-progress stories, there's also "Getting to Know You."] A sincere thank you for all these years of hobbit-centric tales!
