Ah, what a wonderful chapter and ending to this story! Little Pippin was so adorable! Poor Merry; I know how feelings like that are. Well, I congratulate you on your awesome fic!

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad you liked it--Pippin is just so adorable, isn't he? That's why Merry just can't stay mad at him.
Thank you again for reading and reviewing!

*heavy sigh of releif* Yay! Finished! I admire the way you captured Merry's feelings, so angry and afraid that he couldn't stand to be around Pippin. 'Please love me again!' Oh yes! Wonderful story, with a happy ending for all! ^_^ Thanks so much!

Author Reply: I thought that with anger at Pippin being so very rare, the unaccustomed feelings would make him confused, and were so intense that he just didn't *know* how to deal with Pippin at first.
But there is no way that bond could be broken--it was just seriously bent for a short while.

I always end with as happy an ending as is possible. I'm just a softy that way, LOL!

Good way to resolve the story. I love reading these hobbit stories. Keep it up!

Author Reply: Thanks! I love writing and reading hobbit stories, so I don't imagine I will quit anytime soon!

Thanks for the heads up about the ending. I thought it was a rather abrupt way to end the story, lol. I really enjoyed the banter about who could best 'Rule the Shire' and I love that game - sort of a Shireopoly, I'm guessing. :)

Author Reply: Oh, good! I'm *so* glad I thought to check on something this evening when responding to reviews, or I would never have realized I messed up. I'll be so glad when the desktop has got everything loaded back in. I'm just not used to this laptop.
Yup, kind of Shire Monopoly, you could say.

Oh, poor Pippin! I really understand Merry's feelings though... but poor little Pip thinking that Merry doesn't love him anymore! I can just hear his voice in my head, sobbing and begging... I'm glad that Pippin and Merry have reconciled... at least for now. I'm sure it is going to take Merry a while to regain the trust he once had in his little cousin, and it is so sweet that the "root of his anger lay" in the fact that he was afraid he wouldn't be able to protect him. What

Author Reply: To a small child there is only love and hate--he doesn't really understand the anger brought on by love and fear. But there is no way Merry could hold his anger for very long once he saw how miserable Pip was. As for trust, that *has* been broken, and Pip is going to find Merry being much more strict with him for a while.
I just wanted to tell you that a tiny bit of the end of the story was accidentally left off. I've fixed it now, if you want to know.

Ai, Pippin! What chaos he created with his simple curiosity. I bet that's the last time he didn't listen to Merry and I'm sure Merry will be making him promise to listen from now on also. Such good luck that Frodo was there or Merry may have lost it. Great story!

Author Reply: Well, Pip's going to "try ever so hard" anyway, to mind his Merry. The problem is that Pippin's eleven now (same as seven for a Man) so he wants to find out answers for himself sometimes, instead of just asking questions. But I think it will be a long time now before he makes the mistake of not obeying Merry again.
It really is good luck Frodo was there. My original intention had been to do a Frodo-less story. Apparently anything longer than a couple of chapters, I can't do it.
Just to let you know: a tiny little postscript at the end of the story was missing, apparently, when I posted it.

Poor Merry! All that fear and anger quite overwhelmed him. You did a wonderful job of describing the emotions that someone would feel in such a circumstance. :)

Author Reply: Thank you! You are right, it was just overwhelming to the poor lad.
If you want to know, I just found out that a tiny little section at the very end of the story was left off. I found that out just now and fixed it.

"Oh, please, please love me again!”

How could anyone resist a cry like that! Merry certainly couldn't manage it.

Author Reply: No, he certainly couldn't. And of course, he did still love his Pippin; but he'd had a lot to deal with over the last couple of days, and knowing that Pippin would never have been in trouble in the first place if he'd only obeyed Merry just set him off.
I'm letting everyone know that I just discovered a tiny little bit at the end of the story was left off. I've added it on now. It's just a little postscript taking place the next day, and isn't very long.

Uh, this Pippin will not forget so easily - his Merry angry with him and avoiding him! Probably this will make more impression to little Pippin than any scolding from the adults. But I am glad they are at peace once more - they will need each other to recover from this experience. And Frodo is there for both of them :-)

Thank you for the story, I have enjoyed it, as alwasy!

Author Reply: No, making Merry angry has definitely made such an impression that he will never forget it. Which is why it was alluded to later in "Conspiracy" and "The Dare"--it was just something so rare that it could be counted.

But Merry can't hold his anger against Pippin for long, once he realized the little one was truly sorry, and he would never hold a grudge once they made up. And yes, Frodo is there--in spite of me, LOL! (I just could *not* leave him out!)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it; I always enjoy your reviews!

Author Reply: Just wanted to let you know that a little tiny section at the end of the story was missing when I posted it.

Whew.

Thanks.

Author Reply: Thank you! It was lovely to come across your nice batch of reviews when I got out of bed at 3AM. With the LJ still down, I was at a bit of a loss. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story.

Author Reply: Just letting you know, a little section at the end of the story was not there when I posted, just in case you want to know.
