Shirebound, I've been looking forward to this story! I am glad you are posting it. Already you have made the mood appropriate, with the thoughts of the wights and their history preparing us for what drives them. I like how they sense the power that Frodo carries, and are drawn to it, just as their dark lord and kings would have been. I look forward to seeing where you go with this!

I have been waiting a LONG time for someone to write about the barrow-wights! And you're just the author to do it! Most excellent--I'll be back for more. :-) Pippinfan

Oh, sweetie, I KNEW this was going to be good. And you've started out gang-busters. I love the history, entwined with imagination and the motivations of the wights. Really, really excellent and I can't wait to see more! Thank you so much for making sure I don't miss this. I'm very intrigued and hooked already!

Very well written and described. Certainly has caught my attention, and I can't wait to read more.

I always love your fluffy bunnies, but I really do love these darker, creepier stories as well. This one is looking quite interesting. Tolkien left out so many things. I'm glad you're taking up the mantle of trying to find an explanation for the events at the barrow, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. :)

*shivers* Wow, a non-fluffy Shirebound story! Can't wait to see more.

Ooh - I'm all shivering! (I must always remember to read this story with the lights on). This is such a great beginning - I like the history you give of the barrow wights combined with the old ghost stories of Frodo and Merry's youth. And I do love the wight persona you show at the end. I'm looking forward to the next part :)

OOOoooo, deliciously frightening! I like this kind of story. And there's Frodo calling Pippin "Silly Took." I love that phrase. Onward, heroes . . . can't wait for the next chapter! Happy typing!

Brrr...good start to one of *the* creepiest passages in LotR (the only other two as creepy are the passage of the Dead Marshes and Shelob's Lair). So far your theories are very sound, and very spooky...

Oh!! You are sending shivers down my spine. I can just see Frodo and Merry hiding and listening....and then having nightmares. I have always both loved and hated the barrow wight part of the story as I am not into horror. Dr. Who was my limit. More please!
