Twice Twenty  by Dreamflower 266 Review(s)

These are lovely! Each one is just perfect for the little hobbit involved, and so is Frodo's understanding of them as individuals : )

Author Reply: Thanks. I tried to choose each lesson as something special that I was sure Frodo would have taught that particular youngster, whatever else he taught them.

"A lapful of green-eyed Took" - that's the cutest description of Pippin I've ever heard! Well done, thank you!

Author Reply: Just seemed the right way to describe wee!Pip. *grin*

I could see Merry and Pippin running with the Orcs at the end of this and all you had to say was, "One day, some day, running will be a thing to do for survival." That worked very well. I admire how you can do all of that in so short a story.

Author Reply: Thank you! I, too, was envisioning the two running from the Orcs, and also envisioning Sam and Frodo running from Shelob, and then having to run to keep up with the Orcs when they were in their disguise. Not to mention all the running they had to do in Moria.
I thought drabbles would be really hard, until I tried them. In some ways they are, but in some ways they are very freeing, as there's no need to worry about a plot in a drabble.

Oh, yes. Good use of repetition, finely crafted, tying in with the original at the end (which is rather where I thought you might be going with this--nicely done!)

Author Reply: Thank you! I was a little hesitant with this one--it's not my usual style. I'm glad that you think it succeeded!

Poor Sam, always in fear his Frodo won't return. And Pippin's was funny. I'm sure everyone was always glad to see Merry and Frodo arrive, lol.

Author Reply: I could imagine that everytime Frodo went to visit his family elsewhere, it must have worried Sam, knowing as he did how Frodo missed Merry.

I figured a bored Pippin pining for Merry and Frodo would have been a menace--and we *know* what kinds of trouble boredom landed him in when he got a bit older, LOL!

And there Pippin is, getting into trouble. Good ole Gaffer and Sam, they always come through in a pinch. And I loved Eglatine's assumption on what caused the smell in Pip's hair. If only she knew the truth, she'd probably get a laugh out of it, since Pip still has his hair.

Author Reply: Probably, since they got the sap out, as well. But Merry's not taking any chances. He's waited too long for his Pip to get "big enough" to visit by himself.

Ah, how cute! Baby Pippin is always adorable and he shows the signs already of his trouble making ways.

Author Reply: And nimble fingers, too! *grin*

Is there anything that doesn't remind Pippin of food? lol. Very cute.

Author Reply: Very little, I would suppose--especially at *that* age, LOL!

This was lovely! I do enjoy reading (and writing) about happy hobbits, and I love reading about our lads when they were young.
Thank you for providing such a lovely start to my day.

Author Reply: I'm so glad that it was a nice morning for you! I am having a good deal of fun with this set of themes. I don't doubt that a few of them may turn out to be a bit angsty, but most of them seem to lend themselves to lovely wee!hobbit fluff!

I enjoyed Frodo's story very much. The Bagginses do have a way with a good tale, don't they? This was cute. I look forward to more.

Author Reply: Thanks. I thought it might be the sort of "off-the-cuff" story that Frodo might be inspired to tell, after watching the caterpillar hatch.
