Beautiful image! The swifts, however, always return in the summer, which Bilbo did not. But still, Frodo and Bilbo met again and went on their last, greatest journey together. I like to watch and listen to the swifts myself and am always a little sad when they leave. Author Reply: I missed the swifts this year, though I thought about them at their normal time. We were just too busy to go someplace where we could sit and watch them swirl. Hopefully next year... Thanks!

apologies for the pun in the title. sometimes puns are hard to resist. especially one as good as that!! Loved this. Author Reply: Thanks! (and you're right. mostly I try to resist puns, but sometimes...)

Ooh--what a wealth of new stories and chapters from you this week, Lindelea! And this one is SO appropriate to yesterday! At least that is over with! Author Reply: So glad that tax day is well over, but keep hearing disquieting info that with the tax cuts expiring, even people in our bracket are going to have to pay more taxes, when we're already cutting expenses as it is... *sigh* And now election day is over, and wondering if things will be different, or more of the same. Hobbits make for a nice diversion, anyhow. Thanks!

I hope poor Holly was left with something for her tea.... Poor hobbits! ["As a matter of fact", I was just checking SoA while waiting for the printer to print out some instructions I needed to answer a question on my own taxes....] Author Reply: Just revisited "Drabbles" to add another and realised I hadn't answered reviews. How rude! Belated thanks for your note.

What a wonderful, wonderful gift! Definitely angsty, and so appropriatedly so! Poor Frodo! And thank YOU so for your friendship and all. Headed home tomorrow, to the same job under new management, and perhaps a change to come as time goes by. Love to you always, and to the family as well. Thanks so very much. Author Reply: You are more than welcome (then, and now)! Hope that all is going well with you and those you care for.

Oh my! It's such a sad, bittersweet moment, when Frodo's inner courage and strength just shines! And you show so well what he must have been feeling. Author Reply: Thank you! (Sorry to be so belated, don't know how I overlooked this.)

Yes, definitely angsty for a birthday but a great contrast in emotions nonetheless. Author Reply: Thanks! Sorry for the late reply.

I don't remember this one, Lin. How tragic! Poor Hildibold! At least Frodo made him stop when all had given up! Author Reply: Yes, Frodo kept him from having innocent blood on his conscience for the rest of his days. I love that description of Frodo at the Battle of Bywater. Thanks!

Ah, but it has been a while since I read this last, I see. Still moving, and so appropriately Hobbity! I'll be down Monday the sixth, by the way. Hoping to see you then! Author Reply: Looking forward to seeing you when you arrive. With the cool rains arriving, hot chocolate seems just the thing. *sigh* How I love hobbits and hobbity things. Thanks!

ROTFL!! What a sight that must have been! It's a shame Frodo didn't leave it that way for the S.-B.s! But I suppose he didn't want them coming after him, LOL! The ants-and-honey is in my story "Conspiracy of Hobbits" in Chapter 20, near the end. Fortunately, Gandalf wasn't anywhere near Bag End at the time--Pippin left a plate of honey under the bed, a jar of ants, and the window propped open, as a, shall we say, housewarming gift for the S.B.s.
