In The Service of The King  by Grey Wonderer 36 Review(s)
shireboundReviewed Chapter: 2 on 9/14/2005
What a lovely story. The entire city (and its king) benefitted from Pippin's presence in Minas Tirith.

“I should like to hear Pippin sing in Elvish,” Faramir said, smiling.

“I have heard it,” Frodo sighed. “And it is not exactly Elvish. It is more like Pippish.”

*grins* I'd love to hear it, too!

Author Reply: Wouldn't that be wonderful? Tookish-Elvish! I'd pay to hear it! Thanks so much for reading and for the review.

“Haldir told me that he would get even with me for bringing a Dwarf into the Golden Wood, but I had not expected such cruelty.” LOL! I'd like to hear Elvish with Took accent :)

So, after all Pippin's little "adventure" served the King a lot!
I loved it that the boys of Minas Tirith helped Pippin to clean the fountain.

Even Merry cannot deny, that what Pippin did, turned out to be good in the end. But I think, it will take him a long time yet to let his little cousin really go.

Author Reply: Somehow I could just hear Pippin singing an Elvish song with his accent. LOL Like you, I would love to hear it for real. Thank you for reading and reviewing and I am glad you enjoyed it.

Absolutely fantastic!!! *applause* This is very exciting--I really like it when the hobbits mingle with children. Everything is brilliant...extremely plausible, transitions from scene to scene are handled very smoothly. LOL, maybe I should get somebody to beta my stories! Sadly, I'm too impatient. I hope you're not going to make us wait too long for Part II! I hope it's 19 + pages! Thanks for sharing this wonderful story. :-)

Uh oh! Will Aragorn be roaring with laughter, roaring at his guards or inwardly roaring at such a stupid rule? I mean, there isn't even a sign!

Author Reply: You will know come Wednesday exactly what Aragorn will do. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the outcome.

Wow...What a contrast in this tale. There's Merry and Sam wanting to kill Pip for shirking his responsiblities, when Pip is doing just the opposite. There's Faramir and Aragorn talking about how they need to do something to help the people of Gondor realize Aragorn is a much different person than Denethor and worthy of the crown, and there's Pip doing that very thing by telling the various people about Aragorn and all he did during the Quest.

I have a feeling Elessar will be displeased w/his youngest Knight, but once he finds out the entire story, Aragorn's mind might just change. :o)

Looking forward to more of this wonderful story.

Author Reply: Thank you. What a lovely review! It does seem as if everyone has their own list of concerns right now. Hopefully they will all come to realize that they are all working in the same direction. I will post the second half by Wednesday. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

I'm enjoying this very much, especially how Pippin stands up both for Aragorn and for TY.I also enjoyed the scene for Aragorn and Faramir as they are my favourite chracters.

Author Reply: I have always like Faramir but haven't written too much with him. I have a story that I never finished with him in it and I do hope to get back to that one before long. I thank you for the review and I am glad that you are enjoying this.

LOL! Pippin is just being a little stinker in this one! Very well written--so far. I've only gotten to the part where Pippin and the Gang start playing the ball game and Aragorn reluctantly assenting to more than likely have a talk with Pippin...I am only guessing at that because as I said, I haven't finished it. LOL, so don't tell me exactly what he does. I'm savoring the rest for tomorrow's lunchtime. Oh, yeah, chapter one is every bit 19 pages, but I'm loving it. :-) All of your characters are *very* well portrayed here. Excellent job. :-) I'll be back again tomorrow...

Author Reply: I probably should have split this into three parts instead of two. Funny thing is I almost posted the entire thing as one long chapter. LOL I wrote it without breaking it into chapters and so when it came time to post it, I wasn't sure where to split it. Glad you are enjoying it and I won't give away anything at all. Thanks so much for reading!

Wow! This story is great!
Pippin did a lot in his very own way for the King's reputation and I've no doubt, that Strider will be a fair judge. After all, Pippin really didn't know that he was defiling the "King's Fountain". (To tell you the truth, never before have I heard the expression "to defile". I had to look it up!)

And Merry has a very hard time here. It's not easy for him to let his little cousin go, after all that happened.

“I am still trying to let go of you, Merry-lad,” Frodo laughed.
Frodo is a very wise hobbit. He knows exactly, what to do to calm down his Merry.

Another great story from you :) I love how Pippin is doing his work in the city, helping with the children (being the youngest of his cousins, he knows so much about tagging along and trying to keep up with the older children) and also informing the people of the city about their new king.

Author Reply: Thank you! Pippin does know a bit about what Ty is going through and that should make it easy for him to give good advice on the subject. I do think that he would enjoy playing with the lads as a way of forgetting some of the more serious events of the quest, but he is still finding time to answer a few questions about Aragorn along the way. Thanks for the review!

I really enjoyed reading this. I can just imagine it all happening from Pippin's adventures with the boys to Merry trying to learn to step back a little. And a story that examines the people of Gondor's transition from Steward to King is a rarish occurance. Can't wait for more.

Author Reply: Thank you for the lovely review. I am glad you are enjoying this one. I will be posting the other part by Wednesday and I do appreciate your reading this. I hadn't thought of the transition as being uncharted ground but now that you mention it I haven't seen too much on the subject before. Looks like Pansy's little donated bunny is traveling new roads.
