Such fun to see Boromir and Aragorn bonding over something so silly. Love them sniggering while Gandalf casts up his eyes and asks 'why me?'

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed the silliness. Even Boromir and Aragorn are entitled to a little schoolboyish behavior from time to time, I think :)

This is adorable! An excellent way for Boromir and Aragorn to pass the time, and I love that Gandalf was the one to spoil their fun (and that he gave Faramir the book!). Excellent! :)

Author Reply: Thank you so much, SlightlyTookish. This was a lot of fun for me to write!

Wonderful! Amusing! and so well documented! I'm sure you had great fun writing this! The book sounds like one of those compendia which remind us that there are other worlds where there is a particular, specifical word for each minute difference or each occurrence in nature or at work! Such richness!

Everyone is so in character! but I loved best Gandalf's intrusion. Of course he would know! That was lovely!Adn both men laughng helplessly like children! priceless!

And btw, as I was reading the other reviews, please tell eiluj, the other librarian, that in Spanish "lime" is lima and "lemon" is limón, two different words for two different fruits, and that there aren't two words for peaches, but a "pine of words" for slightly different varieties of fruits resembling "peaches":-)

Good work!

Author Reply: Thank you so much for this lovely review. I appreciate your comments so much, and I did have fun writing this. And I did tell eiluj your information about limes, lemons and peaches :)) Thank you for providing it!

Loved it! Enjoyed seeing Aragorn and Boromir have a few light moments together.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Grey Wonderer! I wanted to give them a light moment, and a chance to know each other better.

Hello from a fellow librarian.

I liked that it was Gandalf who realized that book would be perfect for Faramir, and had a copy made for him in Rivendell.

And I very much enjoyed your possible terms for hobbits.

A murder of crows: that would certainly suit the crebain.

My own word musings at work are more likely to be along the lines of why Spanish has two words for peach, yet there is no way to differentiate between lemon and lime. Or why the word used for "overdue" also means defeated in battle.

Author Reply: Hello back to a fellow librarian! Thank you for your kind comments. I have also a message for you from someone else who left me a review:

This was so warm, clever and funny. I was enjoying Aragorn and Boromir's discussion thoroughly, but Gandalf's gruff interjection really made me grin. Wonderful!

Author Reply: Thank you! I thought Gandalf might be rather grumpy at that point, and he does seem to have a gruff side at times in the LotR :)

I really enjoyed this story and I love the group names for different species - my favourite has always been an unkindness of ravens and a murder of crows.
Love 'a nestle of halflings' but a hobbitpile is a great description.

I liked Gandalf's crankiness and Boromir's affection for his brother. Very sweet story.

Author Reply: There are so many wonderful group names that I had trouble narrowing down the ones I used in the story- I would have liked to use many more! Thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm so glad you liked the story :)

Such fun jaunt into the world of animals group names, even though the creatures in question have not a clue that they are in the subject of interest.

I liked the fondness you showed of Boromir for his brother, Faramir, and the thought that, yes, they did have some hours and many moments for a bit of friendly interchange.

My personal favorite is the ‘nestle of haflings'.

Thank you for an amusing little tale.

Author Reply: Thank *you* so much for your comments. I appreciate them very much. 'Nestle of halflings' seems to be the favorite of most people- I guess that means Boromir won the competition :-))

Quite a charming story! I love the hobbit's murmured 'pass the butter, please' and Boromir's fond memories of his brother; and most of all, Gandalf's cantankerous, very credible reaction to the Men's conversation. And of course, Gandalf was the one who gave Faramir the book!

Author Reply: Thank you very much for your kind words, and especially for finding Gandalf's reaction credible. I hoped it would be. It seemed in character for him.

Hehe! How delightful. I can clearly imagin the amusing night you described.
You dont see very much, if any light talk between Aragorn and Boromir, so this was nice. They probably needed a few laughs. I loved it when Ganalf woke and chewed the young men out with his knowledge, I think I laughed most then.
Yes, Legolas was probably bewildered that his mellon nin suddenly started talking like an elfling. Hehe. :) Hobbitpile! I shall have to tell my friends about this. Namarie & God bless, Arwen

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Arwen. I'm very glad you enjoyed the story, and I'm sure you're right that they needed a few laughs along the way!!
