Eek, missed this one the first time around! I'm always interested to see other authors' perspective on this topic--and I haven't seen very many! Cool! Love the doggy. Already. I like gold-colored dogs LOL ~~~{~@ Author Reply: I love imagining Frodo with a dog (no big secret)! :D

How on earth did I miss this? What a wonderful gift for Frodo in his healing and to serve as a companion in his new life! And Bilbo now knows Frodo is well guarded as well as befriended. Author Reply: Thank you, Larner. Even from my first reading of the books in the late 1970's, I wondered if Frodo would ever find peace and healing. I'm just compelled to keep exploring this theme (from my own fluffy POV of course)! :D

*squeeeee!* A new Shirebound story! And what a story - how perfectly wonderful to see Frodo already healing. Mellon is certainly a bit larger than Scamp (!) but still as loving to Frodo. He has a real guardian in this delightful and loving hound. Can't wait for more! Author Reply: Thank you, BB! I'm a little nervous because usually I know where a story is going before I start posting it -- but this one is just going to unfold "exactly as it means to". *sigh* I just can't seem to let the poor lad go anywhere without a dog, can I? :D

Ahhh. That's lovely. I'm looking forward to further stories of him with Mellon. I love how you describe that bond, and the feeling of safety and excitement that Frodo feels through, and with, the dog. Author Reply: Safety is such an important issue! From the day Frodo inherited Bilbo's ring he was never truly 'safe' (which will be discussed a bit in chapter 2). I'm so glad you're enjoying this.

How good to see that he awakes in the West joyful! Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I agree! *grins*

This is beautiful. I can't wait for more! “Bilbo?” “Yes?” “Don’t ever stop calling me that.” “I promise,” Bilbo said, wrapping his arm around Frodo’s shoulders. “My dear lad.” Loving it :D Author Reply: Thank you, shirespirit. Frodo truly deserves a peaceful, joyous "second chance" at life.

“Everything will be fine now, my lad,” the old hobbit whispered in satisfaction. “You’re going to be all right.” Awwwwww! I read this in your LJ some time ago, and I loved it. A wonderful idea to use it as a starting point for a brand-new Shirebound Story ;-) "Mellon" is a suitable name for that dog (or hound?) and she showed that she liked it immediately. Now I'm looking forward to reading about more adventures of Frodo and his new friend :) Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea. I'm not even sure where this story will go, I just knew I had to finally start posting! :D

Oh, so lovely and gentle. My favorite bit? Frodo begging his beloved uncle to 'never stop calling me 'my lad.'' Just gorgeous! Author Reply: Thank you. I do adore it when Bilbo says "my boy" or "my dear lad". He spent most of his life living alone, with no one on which to lavish his love.
