Ah, yet another great chapter....and I suspect I see your path toward Imogen's long-term health. What strides one can make given the right opportunities and characters.
Thanks as always for your efforts on this story--I hope that your vacation is great and look forward to further chapters on your return.

Author Reply: Thanks, Matt! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. Yes, the hands of the king are the hands of healing - even if said king is still in incognito.

I hoped to finish the next chapter before going off to my vacation, but researching pagan Anglo-Saxon customs is time-consuming, and adapting them to a fantasy universe is very hard, so... it may take a couple of weeks.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, I appreciate the support very much.

Great chapter! Seeing Imogen's perspective on all of this is fascinating - so much detail about the culture and the possibilities! I'm glad that she will have some of her own people to go with her - I imagine it will be different enough for her without having to be alone among strangers!
I look forward to reading more! :)

Author Reply: The good thing with the Easterlings is that I can really go wild with the worldbuilding part without getting AU. We simply don't know a thing about them. Imogen and Ragnar are some of my most favoured OCs, they are great fun to write.

Thanks for taking the time to read and review, you know how much your support means to me. *hugs*

Two really great chapters. I'm so glad that you are, indeed, updating this story at a high rate now. I did read the longer piece on ffn that you suggested I have a look at and it was great. Having liked all of your ST works as well, I wasn't surprised. I'd have reviewed there but I'm having some kind of issue with the adaptive software that I use (I'm blind) on that site where reviewing is concerned.
With respect to this story, I really like how you've done Imogen and think I see a possible path forward for how you'll handle the building of a connection with Elfhelm. I'll be interested to see if you take the direction I anticipate.
Thanks as always for your most obvious efforts on all of the stories that you write (even though most of the universes don't do much for me so I don't read most of your writing) and I look forward to future chapters of this tale soon.

Author Reply: Thank you. :) I'm glad you enjoy my writing, and I'm particularly glad that you liked "Web of Darkness" - it's one of my personal favourites.

I hope what I'm planning for Imogen will meet your expectations. Thanks for reading and reviewing - support is rare and much appreciated in these days. :)

Good chapter - it is very interesting to see how all the snippets joined together into this chapter. Seeing the culture through Elfhelm's eyes is great - it shows so much about the Rohirrim as well as the people there.
I look forward to reading more :)

Author Reply: Thank you! :) I'm glad the culture backgrounds make sense for you - coming from a dedicated world-builder like you, it's a compliment. *hugs*

Its always great to see you work further on this fic. Its so well thought and researched and a joy to read. I particularly enjoyed the interactions in the throne room as they seemed about right to my somewhat limited knowledge of Norse culture.
Thanks as always for your obvious work on this story.

Author Reply: Thank you. :) I've made this my mid-year picowrimo project and intend to make as much headway during sommer as humanly possible.

I'm not such an expert on Norse culture myself, and it's possible that I've misinterpreted lots of things, but I'm trying really hard to get the details right. It's nice to know that there are readers who appreciate it.

More such stuff is built into my other story, "The Web of Darkness". I can't post it here, because it's a crossover with Forgotten Realms, but if you're interested, you can find it on FanFiction.Net. My pen name there is the same. It's basically about the siege of Dale by Easterlings.

I enjoyed your description of the feast very much.

Author Reply: Thanks, Linda! If you're interested in the really, really geeky version of this, with all the Old English phrases in it, go there:

I'm afraid Aragorn won't appear until two chapters later, but then he'll prove very useful for Elfhelm - who, of course, won't have a clue who this "Strider" person really is. *g*

This is the one story that you have that I do try to follow closely but with the slow production velocity I miss chapters. Therefore, it was wonderful to see that two have come out since the last one that I read.
You do so nicely with these characters and there is a certain....epic quality to this piece that I have had trouble finding in others that you have done. I very much look forward to learning about the meeting to come and the interaction between our future Marshall and your OC.
Matt

Author Reply: Well, thanks... I guess...
The truth is, I've sworn off the epic stuff, after having written it for decades in original fiction. It gets a little boring after a while. I prefer to try my writing muscles in different genres, it's more fun.

This is a rewritten original story that has been adapted to Tolkien's Ardaverse, hence the difference to my other stuff. But I'm pleased that at least some people enjoy it.

Elfhelm has a long way to go yet, before "getting the girl", but I shall endeavour to do the translation from Hungarian a little faster in the future.

This is so satisfying! The story still has a travelogue feel to it, with Strider as a learned guide, and I like it very much.

Author Reply: Thank you! :)

The really interesting parts are yet to come, but I wanted to move the story from its dead spot. Hopefully, you won't have to wait another two years for the next update. *g*

Rereading this story after "Elf-root"... You said you already know what happens next. Would you tell us? Please?

Author Reply: I intend to, I really do! The thing is, it requires not only a translation from Hungarian, but also a thorough adaptation to the Ardaverse, and that's more complicated than writing a whole new story. But now I've begun it this way, I can't change it.

Also, while writing "The Web of Darkness" (not posted here because it's a crossover) I changed some things in the Easterling culture, and those changes need to be added, which also slows down the work on the story considerably.

So, yes, the update *will* come eventually, but I can't give you the exact deadline, I'm sorry. I'll announce it on LJ, I promise.

Author Reply: Update is posted, in case you're still interested. :)

Sorry if I'm abit pushy but will there be an update for this story? It's very refreshing to see things from Elfhelm's point of view

Author Reply: Well, the sad fact is that I simply don't find the time to translate the stuff. Translation is a lot trickier than writing right in English; Hungarian is a language unto itself, and I have to be very careful not to transplant any weird grammatical structures into English.

As for the story, it's actually fully written (in Hungarian), so there will be updates, eventually, I promise.
