The Set of the Soul  by Nilmandra 46 Review(s)
CesReviewed Chapter: 2 on 2/24/2008
The ending was just what I expected from Legolas - still trying to wrangle his own sword!

That was wonderful - and I admit I was holding my breath the entire time. And the spider managed to insert some macabre humor in his swinging back and forth and chanting, "Whee!"

Tinánia and Lathron have an enduring love and bond as special as the one between Rawien and Tathiel. And the love they all have for each other is wonderful to see.

Loved seeing Emlin prepared with her rock - I have a feeling she's got one deadly aim! She and Tinánia made a strong showing together and proves that one does not mess with elve - male or female!

I'm so thankful to be revisiting some of my favorite characters and get a peek at what they are up to. Don't leave it too long before we see them again please!

Author Reply: How odd to be replying to reviews on Nilmandra's story. LOL.

I had fun trying to figure out how to finish this story in a way that would fit with Nilmandra's characters rather than mine. At first I was really daunted. But I sat down with chapter 1 and highlighted what had to be carried through to chapter 2, and then once I got going it was really exciting to do this.

Tinania and Emlin are a great pair. Nilmandra has some good female characters. I always thought that about Tathiel too.

I get to leave the first review on my story, LOL! I love it, I love what you did with the plot threads, especially the scenes with Emlin and Tinania. They come across as strong, confident elf-women/girls. I also love the scene with Lathron and Tinania. They are so happy together. Thank you so much for this. It is a wonderful gift, Daw.

Author Reply: You're so welcome, Nilmandra. I had a lot of fun working on this. I was worried I hadn't done justice to Emlin, so I'm glad you liked that. The scene between Lathron and Tinania was my favorite to write.

Happy birthday again to Dot.

I so enjoy your stories. Please say you're not posting a chapter once a year! Lol!

Author Reply: Fortunately, Fishy, it is only a two chapter story, so we're done, thanks to Daw! LOL, sorry for the very long wait. Nilmandra

...love the story.....and need more. I know real life has a nasty habit of getting in the way; but you've left us hanging now for a year!

Tricksy writers!

I do adore you're writing, and I'd be thrilled to see any update by you - one of my absolute favourite authors. Would it be rude to prod and ask if you're still writing, or if there's another chapter for this tale on the way?

This is a nice story and I wouldn't mind seeing more of it. :-)

Wow! What a story Nilmandra. I actually read it awhile back but I've been horribly remiss in leaving reviews lately. As always though, you rock my world! What a great story. I felt like I was right beside poor little Leggy feeling every bit of his terror. And Lathron, his fierce protectiveness of Leggy was so heartening to see. I think my favorite part had to be when poor little Leggy threw hiself over his friend. See, even when he was little, he was willing to sacrifice hiself to save others! :)

Good grief, it's wonderful to be reading about these characters again. I've loved them for so long, I about rolled around my room in delight when I saw you had a new story with little Leggy in it again. *sigh* I can't wait until you continue this! I'll be here with bated breath, as always, when you write! :)

I am horribly remiss in answering reviews! I am glad you liked Legolas's bravery - that is the idea with the title and poem, too. That is the 'Set of his soul'. :D

Catching up on reading...this is great, Nilmandra! I love Legolas and the squirrel. Dumb squirrel, indeed, to not recognize a trade! ;-) And when the spider appears, the tension there is great! Well written. I love these characters and I hope you continue this soon.

Author Reply: Oh my, Elliska, I haven't answered reviews in almost a year! I am so out of the loop. Thank you for reviewing. I am glad you enjoyed it.. and I hope you like Daw's ending. :D

Yay! SO good that you finally returned to Lasgalen! And with spiders! That was great. The tension brew up nicely form the merry beginning, so we remember again the evil times they are facing and how asy could be as well for an elf to lose his life. Poor Lathron, I hope he gets well... and I hope that lEgolas does not feel too bad. YOu get me waiting eagerly...

Author Reply: Here I am, many months later, and poor Legolas has been wrapped in spider webbing. But he is all better now, thanks to Daw! Thanks for reviewing and pardon my lack of manners. :/

I've been reading so many spider stories lately. What is it, Spider Month?
:-)
No matter. This is an interesting beginning. I look forward to more.
I wonder what Thranduil will have to say to his son. "Stay away from abandoned flets!", perhaps?

~Calenlass

Author Reply: My apologies for the long delay in responding, as well as finishing. IT was indeed spider month! We had a little challenge. Glad you liked the beginning.. and hopefully the ending too.
