For the Dwarves, Gimli  by annmarwalk 29 Review(s)

All three of these are wonderful. It's so nice (and very unique!) to see the perspective of Gimli's mother. I enjoyed these very much.

Author Reply: Thank you! She's not all that different from any other mother *g*. It's amusing to think of gruff Gimli as someone's darling little boy, though!

Oops--Mom just realized her son is NOT necessarily in a safe situation, and all are likely to pay. Not a good position for a Dwarf father to be in, admitting he agreed to such a disposition for his son.

As usual, Ann, a series of wonderful tales. Thanks so much!

Author Reply: Oh dear, it certainly didn't take Nandi long to put two and two together, and come up with "trouble".

Thank you for your generous comments! I really enjoyed spending time with Gimli and his loving family.

Yup, I think Gloin will be sleeping in the forge. Those other dwarves are quietly edging away to make their escape before all hell breaks loose. Wait til she hears the nature of the quest and the small size of the party.
Another fine drabble! Thanks for sharing it.

Author Reply: Poor, poor Gloin! He has a lot of tough explaining to do.

I'm glad you enjoyed these - I had much fun writing them. I haven't completely resolved my writer's block issues, but I'm feeling a bit more hopeful that I haven't lost all my words.

Squee! I knew you would manage to sneak Boromir in!
many horrifying tales of, shall I say, overexuberant protectiveness
One can only imagine. Especially with the first child. Despite the vast difference in height, I'll bet those socks fit Boromir's shapely feet because the dwarves probably have huge feet. Gimli's generous offer is right in character because he often acts against the stereotype of dwarves as greedy and secretive.

Well, how would anybody know it was my story, without Boromir?

I think these two gruff and burly warriors would have regarded each other at first with suspicion, then with growing respect and ultimately, affection. Sharing their meager supplies would just be a small part of the way they demonstrated the depth of their friendship without words. *tear*

I love the title! Proving that mothers are the same everywhere, especially where the youngest child is concerned. Poor Gimli is used to the fussing, no doubt.
don’t get your beard all knotted
I admit that I still can't deal with the women having beards, though people have shown me the references in canon. Gloin is so going to be in trouble...

Author Reply: I keep hearing Gimli's line, in John Rhys-Davies' voice:

"Thhhrrree pairrrs, motherrrr, and the extra hood, toooo..." Hahahahaha! *wipes tears*

Bearded women, of any kind, distress me somewhat, but I suppose it can't be helped. Glad you enjoyed this!

Mothers would never see quests the same way a father would! LOL, very well done.

Author Reply: LOL! Fathers think: "Honor!Glory!"
Mothers think: "Trouble!Danger!"

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Gimli had a mother, of course he had a mother, and I love her. She made sure he had extra socks and a snack. Of course the moment her back is turned he goes off on some kind of quest, with a elf too.

Author Reply: That's what she gets for letting Dad watch him - off he goes!

Ahh! I'll bet Gloin thought twice about going home with news of that particular honour on his lips!

I love the idea of Gimli with a protective mother, providing him with extra socks and salt pork. (And Gimli's awareness of his own good fortune, when faced with Boromir's long past loss of his own mother.)

Author Reply: They're such a nice pair, Gimli and Boromir; really quite similar in terms of gruff exteriors concealing hearts of pure gold, aren't they? Thanks for heartwarming comments!

Nice to see Gimli getting his fair share of the spotlight. Yes, even tough Dwarven warriors have mothers to worry about them. And just think, he'll journey places no Dwarf has seen in centuries, come through the War with hardly a scratch, best an Elf at Helm's Deep, and forge the greatest friendship between Elf and Dwarf since the time of Narvi and Celebrimbor. Well done for mama's baby boy. Personally I'd credit the socks.

Author Reply: Personally I'd credit the socks.

Well, they do say, "If your feet aren't happy, the rest of you can't be happy", so maybe the socks did have a lot to do with those worldshaking events! Thanks for reading and commenting!

Nicely done! Great interactions between the characters, brief though it is. What a nice gesture on Gimli's part, for Boromir. And I can just see the fierceness of the dwarven mother in those closing lines. Certainly not one to mess with! Just as I would imagine them.

Well done!
