The Blessing  by Pearl Took 331 Review(s)
Garnet TookReviewed Chapter: 31 on 5/27/2008
I am sad to see it end, but I did know it was coming.:) Thanks for taking us on such an interesting journy. I look forward eagerly for the other stories in this universe.

As for this last chapter...

I find myself wanting to start singing, "I am the Don Quixote, the man of LaMacha"(I know I spelled that wrong, but couldn't find the right spelling) after the comment about being naked and challenging rocks and trees to duels. I half expected a windmill to get mentioned.:) That was one of cleverest things I've seen in a while.

I think you both wrapped this up on just the right note. There is joy and concern, happiness and uncertanty. They all have the blessing of the Wise, and they will prevail.

I'm glad Pippin told Merry the truth and that Merry agrees to stand behind his cousin 100%.

I'm also going to put in a request. I really would love to see something about Pippin facing down the ruffian in front of the Green Dragon and also something about his long ride through the night to bring reinforcements to the Battle of Bywater. These are two moments in the book that I would love to see developed in this universe. Thanks.:)

Author Reply: Hi Garnet,

Yes, you were one of the few.

I'm so glad you liked the "naked and challenging rocks and trees to duels" I wasn't thinking about Don Quixote when I wrote it, but did when I was going over it for errors and such.

The scenes you mention are ones that have long been in the works, so never fear, they will be amongst the vignettes.

Again, thank you so very much Garnet for your encouragement and support :-)

It's wonderful that Pippin realizes that he has two homes now, and that Merry "knows", and Sunshine is there, and ohhhh, the gentleness with which dear Bilbo is treated. *happy sigh*

Lovely story, Ladies, ending with a blessing not only for Pippin, and the hobbits, but for all of us. We do the best we can with whatever strengths and gifts -- and weaknesses and failings -- we've been dealt, for as long as we're able, and with such friends as we can gather round us.

*applauds*

Author Reply: Thank you so much, shirebound :-) We're happy you like the ending for this part of the tale. Having friends and loved ones does make everything better.

Thank you :-)

So proper a homecoming--as Bilbo does represent home, after all. And may Pippin know easing from this.

Bless Sunshine for her caring, and the others for their love.

Author Reply: Thank you, Larner :-) I was very glad Sunshine showed up in the story. The love they all have for each other is the most powerful thing they have.

Wonderful chapter, Pearl and Golden!

I particularly liked it that Elrond introduced Pippin to Findecano. That was very thoughtful of him.

I'm quite sure that Pippin makes progress in accepting his condition and in learning how to use his special gift.

But the fit he experienced at the end makes me worry. Is it really possible to accept this is part of you? I hope it is, but it's surely very difficult to do and it takes a long time.

Good old Bilbo! He was shocked of course. And I would have liked to hug him myself :)

I'm looking forward to reading more!

Author Reply: Thank you Andrea :-)

I know a couple of people with epilepsy and they have both accepted it, fits, bad spells and all. Both are more involved with the business of living their lives to the best of their abilities. I'm sure not everyone is like that, but I think Pippin would be.

Bilbo will be all right, I think :-) Elrond will take good care of him.

We're going to be trying to get more to you soon :-)

Oh my! You just broke my heart - though I knew our dear Hobbit was not healed, it had been so long since something like this had happened to him. What went wrong???? *sobs bitterly*

Author Reply: Oh, sorry to break your heart Agape (((Agape)))

Nothing wrong, it's just one of those things, sometimes the fits are worse than other times. Be comforted, Pippin is strong hearted and he has people who love him just as he is.

Thanks so much for sticking with the story :-)

Hugs,
Pearl

You did an awesome job with portraying Bilbo as old as he is in Rivendell. Very well done and very much in character!

LOL, loved the discussion about hobbit-sized plates vs. plates used by the Big Folk! And it appears that Pippin and Elrond have developed a wonderful rapport through discussing the Sickness.

I'm enjoying the stay in Rivendell, but as we know, the lads do have to get back to the Shire. ;-) Very well done!

Author Reply: Thank you m'dear!

It hit me as I was describing the table service that any hobbit worthy of the name would like to just use the bigger plates ;-)

They'll be on their way soon! So glad you enjoyed it :-)

Oh, a cliffhanger! This was a fantastic chapter. Pippin really is starting to accept what has happened and treat it much more like just another part of who he is.

There were so many moments I loved in this chapter. The explanation of what happened to all of them and Pippin's questions about reproduction were two of my favorite.:)

I can't wait to see what happens next and how they all deal with it.

Oh, I also wanted to say that I think Sunshine trying to get Pippin's attention right before he colapsed was just perfect.

Author Reply: We are always so glad when a chapter hits home with you, Garnet :-)

Pippin and the other travellers are truly accepting what has happened and they will all be stronger for it. So glad you liked those bits :-)

Very glad the part with Sunshine felt perfect! Thank you :-)

GAH!!! CLIFFHANGER!!! How could you do that to me?!?!? leave me only wanting MORE and I can't have anymore yet cause there isn't another one up yet!! GAH!!! I'm glad Pippin met someone very much like himself I think that will help him very much so in the end

Author Reply: Thank you pippinsgirl.

We do have to make sure you want to come back and read more ;-)

It is always a comfort to have someone to talk to who truly knows what you are going through.

I really liked the way you described Bilbo in this--he is older, frailer, but no less worried for his loved ones. And how shocking for him to see Pippin have one of his more serious fits.

And I'm glad Elrond and Findecano were able to reassure Pippin about marriage and family.

Author Reply: We're glad you liked it, Dreamflower :-)

I tried to keep Bilbo as Tolkien describes him. If anything, I have him staying awake more than the Professor did - LOL

'Ask and your shall receive' it is said! I asked and look at the present I got! A great chapter you two. Poor Bilbo. What a horrible realization he is receiving. But I am glad that Pippin gets reassurance about marriage and children.

Author Reply: Thank you so much harrowcat :-)

It is a pity Bilbo had to see that, but it is part of Pippin's life now. It would be a concern of any young male, I think, and more so when you're the heir to something important. I wanted to make sure he knew he would be all right :-)
