The Green Knight and the Master of Esgaroth  by Le Rouret 21 Review(s)
eucalyptusReviewed Chapter: 25 on 1/30/2009
Dear me. Two wounds in one chapter! Bandobras was one, of course; what a sad, terrible, helpless way to go. I was somewhat prepared for his death because it seemed certain that *someone* was going to be eaten by Muhk, but also -- Belias and Durfinwen? Did I read that right? I didn't see that one coming, seeing as I was (ahem) far too busy looking for signs of a certain someone else's affection for her! C'est la vie, I guess. Your muse is a sadist. Brilliant though too. I am glad we are getting to the worst of it now. Legolas' dreams are making more and more sense. Good luck with the next chapter!

Oh Bandy! Le Rouret what have you done?! I suppose that Legolas will snap to action after this.

Very touching Tamin's declaration of his reason to be in the battle, and his courage, and Bandy...I'm crying...a Took to his very end.

So the dragon plans for Mirkwood were Legolas' nightmare...And where are the elves and dwarves armies, and Faramir and Meivel?....Durfinwen was Belias beloved? I know that he liked her, but no the other way around...I'm still hoping againts hope that she will become Legolas wife, (well one can always dream)I suppose that they will need to ship her to Valinor and pray for a cure, as was done with Celebrian.

Glad that your muse is working overtime, I don't need to tell you that I can't hardly wait for the next chapter...

As always, it is a pleasure to read your story, even if you kill all your characters...

Thanks, Fantasia

Author Reply: Thank you, Fantasia! Amidst all the indignation and disbelief, it's nice to know that all this angst is still a pleasure to read!

No! Oh ow! That started my morning with tears. I know, in war young Hobbits die, but still...oh that hurts.

Brilliantly scripted, as always, though a bit more painful than most.

Thank you for sharing.

Oh no! I'm just so shocked by the ending. Poor Bandobras. I can't believe he's gone, but at least he died saving Tamin.

I dread to think what the effect is going to be on Legolas and the others. I hope the next chapter will be soon, to save me from biting away all my fingernails!

Author Reply: Thank you, Naledi! The next chapter is up ... enjoy (if you dare)!

All I can say is I'm in shock!! To kill Bandy! Bandy?

I should have waited to read this chapter until I was off work. Now I've got to go through the day with this awful image of Bandy being eaten by a dragon.

I won't say much more now, because if I say what I am thinking, I may regret it later.

Author Reply: You've definitely piqued my curiosity ... now that the heat of discovery is lessened, what on EARTH were you going to say to me? It cannot possibly be any worse than some of the reviews I got for killing Legolas in "Pottymouth."

Hi Le Rouret,

OMG...... Poor Bandy

I have kept up with this story, but to my shame this is the first review I have left. Just wanted to say that I have really enjoyed this tale. Your undoubted skill as an author keeps me wanting more even though the content is very dark and angst ridden, and in places too awful to contemplate..

I will keep going in the hope that 'just deserts' are coming.
Tithenaru

Author Reply: Thanks, Tithenaru! I'm flattered you felt this story worth reviewing.

I'm all about justice ... justice and mercy, "seasoned" together.

Arrrghhhhgghh! You've killed Bandobras!

That was a surprise.

Well written, too.

On the bright side, I have the feeling that Bandy's death is going to make Legolas awfully mad, so mad that the dragon won't be able to bespell him, ditto Ve and Gimli. Hope they can save Tamin.

Very sad, though; poor Bandy.

Author Reply: Ah, don't pity Bandobras overmuch; didn't he die where he preferred: by his lord's side? Pity Legolas instead, who has to live with it.

The next chapter's up ... no surprises there!

HOLY !!!!!!

* BANDOBRAS * ?!!!!!

I fear me Legolas will never forgive himself... :(

Author Reply: And so, Calenharn, you alight upon one of the most complex and puzzling aspects of forgiveness ... forgiving oneself.

And HOLY ... *fill in the blanks* indeed. You should have heard my daughter's response.

All right, Le Rouret, it is going to take a very great deal of self-discipline to leave a review that consists of more than "AAAIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

Whew - got that out of my system. This is an outstandingly well-written chapter in a story full of well-written chapters. Tight, suspenseful, sorrowful, scary ... and completely wrenching.

I didn't think you'd do in our beloved Bandobras (on the lame grounds that J. R. R. Tolkein never killed a Lead Hobbit), but it makes complete sense, dramatically. This doesn't make me happy, mind you, but it makes sense, it works. I'm going to just have to live with it for a couple of days before I accept it.

Meanwhile I am very worried about all our friends and cannot imagine how you are going to get them sorted (or destroyed, one or the other). Or when and how that blasted nightingale is going to intervene. I still trust you, though, as a writer, which given what you've just gotten up to is praise indeed.

Please convey my sympathy to Nieriel Raina, along with congratulations for her terrific work.
