this is delightful! It's so interesting to see the side of Glorfy we know from LOTR juxtaposed with the Glorfy with the history from Elf Interrupted. Most enjoyable and I hope Erestor gets the girl.

Author Reply: If Finrod has anythng to say about it, I'm sure he will. LOL Glad you liked the story, Ellie. Thanks for reviewing.

Oh my goodness! I just love seeing how Erestor and Glorfindel became friends. Over an elleth! LOL! A pretty bad apple of one from the looks of things. Glad Erestor had Glory to help him in that regard.

Love the fact that Erestor is short. I forgot to mention that last chapter. I just find his insecurities over it so endearing and sweet. I want to hug him! *grin*

I'm glad Finrod was able to get those two dancing at the end.

Great story! I simply adore it!

Author Reply: I'm only 5'8" myself so I know how frustrating it is to have to look up at people. Even here in China there are plenty of people who are taller than I am, so making Erestor not as tall as the average elf just made him more endearing for me. *grin*

I think Erestor and Glorfindel proved very good for one another. Erestor became Glorfindel's first real friend in Lindon and Glorfindel helped Erestor to see himself as someone of worth and that his mixed heritage was more an asset than a curse.

Finrod as matchmaker... well, it just fit. *grin* I'm sure he's going to do all in his power, short of issuing an order, to faciliate a romance between those two 'youngsters'. LOL

Thanks for reviewing.

Thank you so much for writing this, my friend! I simply LOVE IT! Your version of a shy Erestor is just perfect and so endearing. And I loved seeing Finrod playing matchmaker. *grin* Love seeing characters we know from EI so far into the future. I was saddened to see that there is still some unresolved feelings on Ingwe's part. I hope one day the two of them will finally be able to put that behind them.

Great chapter! I just love this. I think it will be one of my favs of yours. *grin*

Author Reply: Thanks, NiRi. I'm happy you like the story. Erestor isn't someone I know very well, so I wasn't sure if I got him quite right. Maybe he'll be a little more forthcoming about himself and I may write more about him.

I'm sure when Glorfindel returns to Aman he and Ingwë will have the chance to work things out.

Quite a story, and now we know the history of the one for whom Aragorn's mother was named? Not perhaps the most propicious of omens.

And thanks for the translation for Nimmeril. I will have to remember that!

Author Reply: Actually, I made an error in that. The elleth's mame was always Nimmeril, but for some reason I had a memory lapse and threw in Gilraen's name instead. I thought I had made the change in all places. I'll have to go back and check. Glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks for reviewing.

Will the ISP from Mordor allow reviews today? I HOPE so!

A lovely beginning, and I can certainly empathise with Erestor's unease. Now to hear the rest of the story....

Author Reply: Well, it at least allowed you to post this. *grin* Glad you liked this first chapter.

Goodness, meldonya, Erestor certainly has self-esteem problems doesn't he? I can just see him there behind the potted fern looking wistful. Too bad the object of his would be affections is such a... ahem... No I won't use such language on a public forum.

I did find it a bit funny that Erestor had seemed slightly affronted and surprised to find out that Lindorillë was the daughter of a baker in the previous chapter and then to see him agonising over the fact that he is the son of a guard and a kitchen maid in this one. Of course, it's amazing what several millenia's experience will do to your reactions to things, isn't it?

Glorfindel was wonderful here. Well, he's wonderful all the time in my opinion but here he's at his best, lending an ear, giving advice and helping out someone who's having a hard time. I'm sure that he noticed the parallels in the way Erestor feels about being Pervoredhel admist Gil-galad's court and the way he felt being not only Reborn but an exilic Noldor in Aman.

Of course, Erestor needs to learn (at this point in time at least) to watch what he's saying and not let his feelings run away with his tongue. If someone other than Glorfindel had heard him say that Gil-galad only knew or cared about him because Erestor's father had saved his life, it could have caused him a lot of trouble.

Good for Glorfindel for jumping on Erestor's self-denigration. And yes, it would have been rather hypocritical of Turgon and his people to have been prejudiced towards someone in Erestor's situation, wouldn't it? What's a bit a Noldo-sindarin inter-relations when the King's daughter is wed to a Mortal after all?

Lovely touch with Glorfindel's comment about Sador marrying a Vanyar lady. What's her name BTW or do I have to wait until you get done iwth Elf, Interrupted Part Deux to find out? And him telling Erestor of Sador's acceptance in Aman was very nice, too.

"I don’t know about you, but I recognize an order when I hear one." Snicker! I hope that Erestor and Lindorillë are able to become friends if not more. At least Lindorillë is not a vapid, spoiled prejudiced airhead like Nimmeril was!

And why do I get a feeling htat Finrod has an inner matchmaker that he has to indulge periodically?

This is going to be so much fun to read...I assume that Erestor is going to have more stories to tell the royal family and others about Glorfindel... I hope there will be.

Take care and enjoy your break from teaching!

Edlyn

Author Reply: Well, I'm sure there were several Noldo-Sinda pairings in Beleriand, and they were probably more accepted in some places rather than others. Erestor seems to have been in a place where the Noldor clearly thought themseves better than the Sindar, thus his self-esteem problems. Luckily, he has Glorfindel there to help him. I think Erestor was more surprised at Finrod's revelaion that Lindorille was the daughter of bakers than actually afronted, as he probably figured the same social snootiness he endured growing up in Fingon's court in Beleriand would exist in Aman.

As to whether there will be other stories, I do not know. As far as I know, this is a single one-shot, but you never know when or how the muse will strike. Perhaps there will be other such tales for Erestor to tell Glorfindel's friends in Aman as they wait for him to return from Middle-earth himself.

Thanks for reviewing.

A new story! Hurrah! And one with Erestor! How wonderful to find it this morning when I came online (I was studying my Latin yesterday and didn't go online at all except to check something about declining third declension adjectives and i-stem nouns--I think I now know how certain Sindarin-speaking elflings in Rivendell must have felt about learning Quenya!).

It's nice to see Lindorillë grown up and I do hope that she treats Erestor kindly. Poor Erestor, he's like a teenager at his first dance! He's very lucky that Finrod has taken him under his wing.

I'm not at all surprised that Erestor broke down weeping at the mention of Glorfindel. Leaving that loveable "blond streak of aggravation" (as another friend of mine who writes Glorfindel stories calls him) must have been as much if not more of a wrench than leaving Arwen, Elladan, Elrohir and Estel in Ennorath.

I wasn't surprised that Erestor who was essentially a non-combatant reacted the way he did when brought into the antechamber. Nor am I surprised that Ingwë recognised what his subtle actions meant. Even non-combatants living under the threat of attack will develop the same defensive mechanisms as a warrior. In fact, I suspect that as a non-combatant, Erestor actually suffered more from the situation of living constantly under seige than someone like the Twins or Glorfindel who have the means to effectively do something tothe threat that a non-warrior would not.

It was good to see Ingwë, Arafinwë, Ingwion, and Sador again. But why does Ingwë think that Glorfindel still hates him? I thought they had gotten things sorted out between them (literally) ages ago.

I know I'm going to enjoy this story, meldonya. On to chapter two!

Edlyn

Author Reply: Thanks, Edlyn. I'm glad you liked this chapter. I think Ingwe is suffering from residual guilt, or perhaps the manner in which Erestor told the story made him think that Glorfindel still hated him. Who really knows? Hopefully, Erestor will disspell any residual guilt Ingwe may have as he shares his memories of Glorfindel with the High King.

Erestor may have been a non-combatant but that doesn't mean he didn't see action. Being a scout during the War with Saruon in the middle of the Second Age, he would've had several run-ins with the enemy. That's a given. Of course, he has given all that up to be Elrond's Chief Councillor and Administrator but that doesn't mean he's forgotten how to be a scout and how to be aware of his surroundings at all times. I think it's telling that Ingwe, who apparently has never experienced combat, reognizes this in Erestor. That what makes him such a great High King.

Thanks for reviewing.

What a fantastic take on Glorfindel’s and Erestor’s friendship. How strange, to become friends, ~because~ of a woman! That is rather amusing :)

I have a hard time imaging Erestor to be nervous and unsure of himself; fancy being put on the spot like that! I hate it, when you don’t even realise that something is expected of you, and everyone else is waiting for you to do it. Weird, but I also have a hard time imaging Glorfindel and Elrond as anything other than very good friends; that has been the vain of most stories that I have read, so it’s quite unusual. ah well. i can well imagine the snooty attitudes of some of the Elves of Lindon. the Noldor do seem to be categorically arrogant, don't they?

Will there be more story telling? I would like to hear more about their friendship. What year are the memories set in? after WoW, certainly.

And he’s dancing with her! I was rather worried that she would reject him for a moment. i'm so glad she didn't

Lovely :)

Author Reply: I think over time Elrond and Glorfindel did indeed become friends, but this ise arly in their relationship (Glorfindel had only just arrived from Aman a few decades earlier), so their relationship is still somewhat more formal, especially as Glorfidel no doubt takes his role as Elrond's protector seriously and Elrond may be resenting this at the time. It will take time for them both to trust one another far enough to become friends.

The memory of Glorfindel describing stealing a horse, which is mentioned in chapter 1, is set in the early years of the Third Age. As to whether any more stories come to light... only the muse knows.

I'm glad you enjoyed this story. Thanks for reviewing.

Hm .. I suppose you realise that I now want to know more about Sador's wife? Could it be Alassiel? And you finally hinted at Glorfindel's origin! Half Vanyarin makes sense, as he is Noldo, but with blonde hair - and that would leave only other possibility, that he was a close relative to Finrod (and then Finrod and the kings should know it in your universe). At least that is what I always thought.

Loved the story how Erestor and Glorfindel became friends over this arrogant elleth. And I was glad Glorfindel gave Erestor a bit more confidence; he needed that!

Thank you, that was fun to read!

Author Reply: We may well learn of Glorfindel's exact parentage in EI2, though perhaps not. Anyway, as to Sador's wife... not telling. *sticks out tongue* Glad you liked the story of how Glorfindel and Erestor became friends. I think Glorfindel was very good for Erestor's self-esteem. Thanks for reviewing.

Even if you've taken a break from 'Elf interrupted', you can't leave all of them for long ;-) It was so nice to see the Kings of Aman again, and Lindorillë - she seems to have improved quite a bit.

When Erestor approached her I was torn between amusement and pity. The poor guy still feels rather unsure of himself, what's probably only to be expected. And of course, now I'm hoping for a bit of romance.

Even if Erestor misses him, I am somehow glad Glorfindel remained behind for now, as I hope that means he'll drag the twins to Aman in the end (I still have a bone to pick with the Professor for hinting it could be otherwise instead of making it crystall clear that they sailed!)

Anyway, I hope it will help Erestor to be able to talk to someone who loves Glorfindel as much as he does. And the Amanians will probably be happy to have someone who tells them stories about the 'impossible golden-haired ellon'.

Author Reply: I am having fun in "projecting" these characters from "Elf, Interrupted" intothe future to see what has happened to them, especially without Glorfindel making things interesting for them. *grin* I think the kings had a double purpose in asking Erestor for tales of Glorfindel... to learn more about one whom they all love and miss and to help one who was also a friend of Glorfindel find his way in new surroundings. I suspect Finrod and maybe even Elrond put them up to it, not that they really needed an excuse to ask Erestor for news about Glorfindel, but it's nice that they go out of their way to make him feel welcome because of his friendship with " that impossible golden-haired ellon". *grin*

Glad you enjoyed this little tale. Thanks for reviewing.
