oh, very, very funny! it's lovely to see them all together and enjoying themselves, and with our two favourite Valar, no less

great stuff. are there going to be any more along this line?

J

Author Reply: Thanks Lilandriel. We appreciate you letting us know how much you enjoyed this and it's good to hear from you. Of course Námo and Vairë are your favorite Valar. Aren't they everyone's? *grin*

Beruthiel's Cat and Fiondil, you two are a terrific fanfic writing pair! And your joint senses of humor are dangerous for the rib muscles, but very good for the heart.

If I were to comment on all the things that made me laugh, this review would be longer than the story (well, that's not an unusual thing with me anyway, but I have to leave in half an hour to do something for someone, and just don't have the time). I rather liked the repetition of "And nine of his friends." When Namo and Vaire were waiting for their guests to arrive. I've only ever held one event that could properly be called a dinner party and I was in trepidation over it too, even though I didn't have to worry about having Glorfindel and his friends as guests!

As always, the description of setting, food, and atmosphere were great, but the story within the story was the best part of all. Poor Elrond and Celebrian. The path of true love never does seem to run smoothly. I loved the description of the picnic and how clueless the prince was about the Quenya insults that Elrond was giving--although part of me shuddered at the thought of what might have happened had Legolas' older brother actually understood what Elrond was saying.

Celebrian was a treat to read! We have almost nothing of her in canon as far as personality and so in other tales I've read she is either a saint or a cardboard cut out. You two made her feel "real", and I suspect that when I read mention of her in the future, this is the personality that I'll carry in my head along with the mental image.

Glorfindel's predicament of being in the wrong time at the wrong place was amusing, as always, and I had to laugh about him retiring to his room with two containers of Dorwinion and not being seen for three days.

Celeborn also felt like a "real person", and part of me wanted to slap him silly for betting on his daughter's love life. I was glad to see Namo's inimitable form of censure in a just a few unspoken words dealing with that aspect of it.

The little reference to Aldundil, Calalindale and Vorondil's family situation was a good touch, and was a great reminder about how this fits into the history of the elves in Fiondil's Valar-verse. I've always liked how the different tales are interconnected and the subtle ways in which that is shown.

Lady Vaire's invitation to the ladies to see her "private collection" just tickled my fancy and got me a few strange looks from other patrons at Panera Bread where I was eating lunch whilst reading this. But I just had to laugh out loud at that line!

I need to go pick up my twin to take her to look at that used car... or I'd be here all day picking out favorite bits.

Great job on this authoring partnership! It's wonderful when two people with similar senses of humor get together like this on a project. There was most certainly a positive synergy going there! Well done!

Author Reply: Thank you, Rhyselle, for a lovely review. Both Beruthiel's Cat and I appreciate it. BC is especially pleased by how you picked up on my subtlties and tie-ins with my other fics, as do I. I think you're the only one to recognize the reference to Aldundil and Calaindalë.

We're also pleased that you like 'our' Celebrían and that you think we've set the bar on her character. I agree that she is not often depicted in other fanfics with any sort of three-dimensional life, so we're glad you found her a treat to read.

We both enjoyed coming up with the idea for the story and all the details that went with it. I'm afraid we got a little silly about it sometimes but in the end we were able to pull it together. I will admit though that my favorite part of writing this was coming up with suitable insults for Elrond to say in Quenya and the 'Imlrathlith' one on Brethilion's part. BC and I spent an enjoyable evening as I looked up "bad" words in Quenya and came up with the insults to go with them. *grin* You can tell I was having way too much fun with that.

Anyway, thanks for reviewing. We both appreciate you taking the time to write such a wonderfully long review. You know how much I love long reviews. *grin*

I especially appreciate the Quenyan insults Elrond offers Legolas's older brother. Very creative! Heh!

Author Reply: Hi Larher! Glad you liked the insults... I think you can tell BC and I were having way too much fun coming up with the insults and then translating them into Quenya. Heh!

interesting take on poor Hal-sweetie Hal-honey, Haldir. You really should have put in an eating and drinking warning. Loved the entrance of the guests and Elrond's rude comments. Oh my! And poor Namo at the end, too. Aren't uncomfortable silences a nightmare, especially when a Vala is involved?

Author Reply: Thanks, ellie. Maybe I'll go back in and put in the warning. LOl Glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for reviewing. And uncomfortable silences are indeed a mightmare when one of the Vala is involved. *grin*

Oh my! What a delightful tale. I don't think I want to go to dinner at Lord Namo's and Lady Vaire's anytime soon. *grin*

Great job, you two! Great explanation of that portrait.

Author Reply: Thanks, NiRi. When you and I spoke and you told me about the painting I just knew that Beruthiel's Cat and I had to do a story together about it because she introduced me to the painting (and Ebe) before your challenge went up. We're glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks for letting us know.

What a delightful story! I enjoyed this to much, thank you both for sharing. I especially enjoyed Elrond's comments at the picnic ;p.

Author Reply: Hi Kim, We're glad you enjoyed this story. I had a lot of fun putting Elrond's comments together and translating them into Quenya. We both were getting a bit silly about it and some of the ones we came up with never made it in the final cut. LOL Thanks for reviewing.

Thanks to the both of you for such a wonderful story, and a good laugh to start my day.

Lyn

Author Reply: Thanks Lyn. So far you're the only one to acknowledge the fact that this story was not written exclusively by me but was co-written (literally half-and-half) by Beruthiel's Cat. I'm glad we were able to brighten your morning.

*giggle*
I’ve always thought of that painting a bit risqué suggestive.
*giggles turn to laughter*

I like your Haldir. He’s not as arrogant as he is in some of the other fanfics I’ve read. You do him justice, as you always do with all of Tolkien’s characters.

~Cal

Author Reply: That painting does raise a lot of questions, doesn't it. *grin* It's really the first time either of us has ever tackled Haldir. We're glad you found him to your liking. thanks for reviewing.

"Elladan and Elrohir exchanged looks that clearly said: ‘Later’. Glorfindel, recognizing that look, glared across the table at Elladan, who affected not to notice" -- Oh my! I hope you're planning on writing the "later."

Hot cherry soup, and cherry trifle in the same story. Must be cherry season where you are too! (We didn't have an untimely freeze like last year, and it's a real handicap not owning a cherry-pitter. Have also been wishing I could levitate to reach more than 5%....)

Author Reply: I didn't think about it... but yes, cherry season is here in Tai'an, too. LOL As for Elladan and Elrohir's 'later'... there are no plans in the offing to write about that. You'll have to use your immagination. *grin*

Absolutely hilarious! You , IMHO, are the top writer here...

Author Reply: Thanks V, but I did have a little help with this one. *grin* Glad you enjoyed it.
