The Book of Mazarbul  by Soledad 44 Review(s)

This is a whopper of a story. Please finish it. Barvi's Ring is brilliant. Is there a basis in Lore for Thrandruil being Thing's nephew? As I read it it occurred to me that PJ might want to make a movie of this!

Author Reply: Why, thank you, I'm glad you like the story, though I won't allow PJ anywhere near it - I wouldn't recognize either the plot or the characters afterwards. Although the visuals would be probably gorgeous. *g*

Re: Thranduil. The only somewhat firm canon consensus is, bases on a chapter of the Unfinished Tales IIRC, that the Sindarin Princes who chose to live among the woodland folk were related to Celeborn. The degree of that relation is uncertain, as there are at least three different versions of origins Tolkien came up with for Celeborn, one of them being that he was the grandson of Elmö, the youngest brother of Olwë and Thingol. I added Oropher as the other one of Elmö's sons, and several fanfic authors seem to agree with that theory, but it is by no way certain.

If we live long enough to finish some of them! How well I know this!

I hope Floi finds this book truly edifying.

Author Reply: We'll know once I had the book written. ;))

Finally--all caught up! I find I like Loni and Lofar very much, and grieve for Bombur' condition. I truly like all of those so far who look to become members of the group intending to set off on this quest.

Author Reply: Good, I can post the next chapter then. It has waited for you on my hard drive patiently while you went through the previous ones. ;)

I'm glad you like the would-be adventurers so far. I've just finalized the list of them and came up with 57 individual Dwarves, so it will take some time yet before they can start. Luckily, they have still 3 years to prepare.

I think his arguments well made, at least. And WE know that Balin ended up leading this quest, may his soul rest in peace. Now, someone is trying to engineer a wedding between Oin and a lady of Erebor? Most interesting!

Author Reply: They are, but they won't succeed. Óin had found his One in my female Bifur and won't bond with anyone else, I'm afraid.

It appears Oin is at least gathering interest from those most likely to properly support his proposed quest. I do hope to see how well he does at getting the meeting with the Fire Mage set up.

Author Reply: That's still several chapters away, I'm afraid. I need to re-intoduce some old acquaintances from "Dwobbit" first because they are going to play an important role in the expedition.

Ah, so now, at least for a time, Oin's wanderlust is sated. But there are allies for Balin for when he tries to reopen Moria, at least.

Author Reply: Well, he needs some tough Dwarven cookies if he wants to go back there, doesn't he?

To be allowed to give back the Gift at will would indeed be seen by many doomed to extended lives as a blessing. Interesting history for their forebears.

Author Reply: Thank you. I greatly enjoyed working out their background. :)

Ah, but a good start indeed. The collars already in the design stage and a home begun, and new lives begun as well. So far things look good for the two of them.

Author Reply: They will, for a while. After all, the Quest is still four years in the future... or so.

Love the look at one of the few remaining petty-dwarves, and adored the visit with Radagast.

Author Reply: Thank you. I always thought the Petty-dwarves got short shrift in the books. We'll see Mother Aase again. And Radagast. I love Radagast.

A worthwhile payment of their coin, obviously. And loved the brief visit with the Twins.

Author Reply: The Twins are always great fun to write. As for their coin, it was well spent indeed. After all, not even Dwarves can eat it, right?
