Yay! another story from my favorite author!

Author Reply: LOL. Thank you, Estel. I hope you like the story.

It's wonderful to see Legolas, Eilian and their minders again! I really like the way you draw the differences between the two bodyguards - especially as Eilian is always the more reckless.

There are some great descriptions and imagery throughout, starting with the very first paragraph: 'the branch sagged into a heart-stopping imitation of an otter slide'. I like that - I can picture the moment so clearly!

I love the way you build on the tension - first Legolas nearly falls but doesn't, then Eilan falls but is unharmed, then Legolas and Maltanaur are both injured when the ledge collapses. What more could go wrong? (On second thoughts, don't tell me - I might not like it.)

The best line: '"I am a Wood-Elf," Eilian said, which would have been more reassuring if he had not just fallen out of a tree.' LOL!

Finally, like Legolas, I can't wait to hear what Thranduil did!

Author Reply: Thank you, Jay. I found it hard to manage four speaking characters on stage at once, even though readers are likely to know them. I can't imagine what a new reader would make of it (assuming there are still new readers in LOTR fanfic).

As you know, I've been working on description, so I'm glad you think it worked.

What more could go wrong? (On second thoughts, don't tell me - I might not like it.)

"Ha!" says poor Elrohir. "You love it when things go wrong!"

How typical - Eilian gets off scot free and is off to have an adventure (without his own bodyguard)! Looking forward to hearing the story about Thranduil, too :)
Thank you.

Author Reply: It amused me to have Eilian get off without a scratch. LOL. Beliond wasn't amused though. We'll see how they all do. Thanks for the review, Mistry.

I didn't put Beliond and Eilian together to have them settle down and study history.

Now you're getting me all excited.

Author Reply: LOL. The adventure is probably smaller than it should be even yet. I keep writing in big letters in the margins of my notes: Don't waste this chance!

Poor Beliond. Yes, I think it is best if they all stay put for a while and listen to a bedtime story! It is great to see the boys all together again!

Author Reply: Bedtime story coming up! But some adventure too. I didn't put Beliond and Eilian together to have them settle down and study history.

Lovely...

Eilian would fall from that branch and it is Legolas and maltanaur who are injured. It is quit funny to see Beliond and Eilain pairing up, but Eilain has a way with words. And the story maltanaur is getting ready to tell Legolas... I have always been curious of Thraunduil and his friends youth... A slip of the tounge indeed....

Can't wait for more..

Author Reply: Wouldn't you know that Eilian would get off without a scratch while Legolas and Maltanaur are both hurt? LOL

Beliond and Maltanaur know all the secrets Thranduil would rather not be told. So telling will be fun!

Thanks, Pipinheart.

Thank you thank you!

A Daw story after such a long time and the first chapter promises much. You have set the scene so well.I can't wait!

Noor

Author Reply: You're welcome you're welcome!

I hope the story lives up to the scene-setting. As I look at what I planned, I'm a little worried I'll waste the chance I've given myself to show Beliond guarding Eilian because my outline seems to concentrate on the Thranduil part. Oh well.

Thanks for the review, Noor.

What a wonderful surprise to see another Daw story! I love your characters so much, I'm very glad to get another glimpse into their lives.

I particularly enjoyed the little touches of humour all the way through the chapter, especially the comparison of Beliond to a bossy Noldor lady :)

Now, with the tantalising offer of a tale of Thranduil's younger days, all I can do is echo Legolas: "Tell."

Author Reply: LOL. Poor Beliond. He wants you to know that he doesn't think that's funny and Legolas is going to pay for thinking it!

I miss these guys so it's nice to have a chance to write about them once in a while. The story won't be very long and will be mostly light-hearted. We all need that sometimes!

Thanks for the review, Naledi.

Ack! I'm so excited you're posting another story, it's been so long! I hope all is going well with you and your writing outside the Woodland Realm.

This chapter is such a wonderful tease, I can't wait to hear about our three greatest protectors' youth!

Author Reply: Thanks, Rede. This story won't be very long, but it's a lot of fun to write about these guys again.

My other writing is going all right, I guess. I have an agent now and she's submitting my stuff to publishers who are looking at it. But publishing is suffering in this economy, like everything else is. In October, bookstores had their worst month ever. So publishers are reluctant to take on new books. Bad timing on my part. Buy books! Give them for Christmas!

*huge sigh of delight* Beliond. Maltanaur. Eilian. Legolas. What a treat to see this posted, daw! And what a beginning! How did I love it? Let me count the ways...All the little telling grins and glances that Eilian sent Legolas' way every time Beliond snapped at him or treated him like a particulary backward elfling! What a brother! LOL Legolas and his description of Beliond as the bossy, little Noldor lady whose family had shipped her off to see Namo during the kinslaying! *g* And the great Wood-elf who fell from a tree! Beliond's reaction to the collapse of the river bank (what WERE those combinations of words he was using? *vbg*) And Legolas and Maltanaur left behind...I can only begin to imagine what Eilian will put Beliond through on their little trip (or should I worry about Eilian instead?) Now, a story about Thranduil...I mean, really daw, can life get any better? *rubs hands together in anticipation* Thank you sosososososo for posting this!

(afterthought: I will miss older brother, though...)

Author Reply: I miss Ithilden too! I actually planned to write about him as a young elf but this story popped into my head in the middle of the night and I decided to do it instead. As I look at it now, there's more going on than I bargained for and I'm a little worried I won't do justice to the Eilian-Beliond part. But we'll see, I guess.

Thanks for the review, Linda.
