Lovely story. You catch the characters well in everyday moments.

I want to thank you with all my heart for your hard work that has led to so many hours of reading pleasure for me.

Author Reply: And thank you as well. Life is stressful right now, and I want to hide so much of the time. Thanks for making me feel so positive a resource or you! Needed that.

Such a small gift, yet significant in many ways. Lovely little story.

Author Reply: Sometimes the small, useful gifts can have the deepest meanings for us! Thanks, Shirebound.

"And you know what? I think as we have some new friends!"

Great story! I must say that Rosie's plan worked out quite nicely.

But Zeno and Thistle were not like some other narrow-minded hobbits we met in your stories. They respected the birthday tradition and they let the others tell them about Frodo and Bilbo without bluntly interrupting them. So maybe they even believed part of what they heard :-)

Author Reply: Yes, that is a blessing. And it's also always a blessing when one makes a new friend or two.

Thanks so very much, Andrea!

Be nice if I did, but no. I live in Oklahoma. So you live in Oregon or Maine, then?

Author Reply: Washington state. My former college roommate lives just across the Columbia River on the east side of Portland, Oregon. Was surprised to see a story set in Oregon, and as I've driven past the state park you mention it seemed logical you were familiar with the state, too.

Lived in Tulsa as a very small child myself, but have lived in western Washington most of my life.

It's great that Sam and Rosie were able to make friends with Zeno and Thistle! And that was quite a party they had in honor of Bilbo and Frodo.

I'm so glad that Aragorn wrote to them!

Author Reply: The Master tells us in the Appendices that the residents of the Shire found Sam's tradition of celebrating Frodo's birthday was as questionable as Frodo's for drinking a toast to Bilbo at his own birthday parties, and that the joint birthday of Bilbo and Frodo was celebrated in Gondor at least as "Ring Day." It thus follows that the Travellers and the King all kept the memory of Bilbo and especially Frodo alive in this way all of their lives.

Again, thanks so much for your comments, Kathy!

Do you live in the Portland area? I visit it frequently, and often have lunch with Lindelea during my visits--she now lives in Vancouver, just across the river. I'd be glad to meet you the next time I'm down with time to spare.

This got buried in my inbox so here am I at last reading and enjoying it. Love the idea of Frodo and Sam sitting in the chair. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: And apparently your response got buried in mine! Thanks so!

[...]but it was simply accepted that in his own way their usually sensible Mayor was almost as eccentric as had been the two previous Masters of Bag End

That was a great little story! Thank you very much and although I am very late: Happy belated birthday :-)

Author Reply: I obviously got very behind in responding to reviews to this tale. I had a wonderful one! Thanks so very much, and am glad you enjoyed this.

What a lovely and dignified destiny for such a beloved tree. I hope your birthday was wonderful.

Author Reply: We know that the loss of so many beloved trees were a blow to the hearts of the returning Travellers, and particularly to Frodo and Sam. How deeply both must have been hurt by the loss of the Hill's roof tree as well as the Party Tree. I so hope that the roof tree might have known such a fate!

And I loved my birthday this year! It was wonderful meeting with Lindelea and one of her three delightful daughters as I did, and getting to hear Billy Boyd as we did. I only grieve that Sean Astin was too ill to also appear.

*laughs* Oh, Dora, Dora, Dora...dear Miss Dora is such a wonderfully delightful Hobbitess. I'm glad she was there for Frodo, he needed a maternal figure in Hobbiton as well as in Buckland. And isn't it just like her to surreptitiously read The Book! I wonder whether Bilbo ever let her get the rest of the story!

I'm sure I've read it before, but I enjoyed reading this again!

Author Reply: It is indeed a question as to whether or not she ever learned the rest of the story. But I'm certain she'd be very upset to see proper manners were not shown to Bilbo in his own house!

Life's been very weird, so please forgive the lateness to responding to your comment.
