Reading your notes on the story, which was quite possible, maybe a little more than Bilbo was capable of, but still good. I would imagine that Bilbo would be more than likely to tell the S.B's. to take themselves off somewhere and would probably have taken Frodo in sooner than he did.I don't think he would have been quite as indulgent as he was. Lynda Author Reply: I am quite sure he would have handled the S-Bs very forcefully, not quite so sure what else would have happened, though I have a few ideas...

*shiver* gruesome, indeed! Even so, I had to smile at "hard, wicked, and bold" as for some reason it reminded me suddenly of Pippin's first meeting with Bergil. Nightmares can be so real, can't they? Whew. So glad that Bilbo was not truly like that. If he were, he'd never have been able to willingly give up the Ring, not even with Gandalf's aid. Author Reply: It was, wasn't it? Not my usual sort of story, but that was my prompt. *grin*, well, that might be because I had that very occasion in mind when I wrote it. They can. I was running a temperature earlier, and had a very vivid one-- I was quite glad that the phone rang and woke me up. No, he wouldn't. But if this were the version of things, the ring would not have been the Ring, thank goodness! In the original shape of things, it was just a trinket, a lesser ring, so to speak. But I like to think that perhaps when he looked over what hoppened in his outline that JRRT realized it just did not suit the Bilbo Baggins we have all come to know and love!
