Beneath Strange Stars  by Larner 78 Review(s)

Awwww. I can just see this.

I'm sure Elrond will be successful... and I should imagine Finrod would be as delighted with the acquaintance as Bilbo.

Author Reply: Well, with "Elrond" as my prompt, knowing Bilbo wrote his poem about Earendil, this just seemed to fit! Heh! And I suspect you're right about Finrod.

Oh, I hope you write a sequel to this! That would cool if they could meet somehow.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: You never know--I just might one day!

So typical of Bilbo! Here he is, having passed up the old Took, and still he is making plans and looking gleefully forward!
I can definitely see Bilbo badgering Elrond into trying to convince the luminaries of previous ages to come and write in his book. And then get said luminaries to get their famous friends and acquaintances to come, too!

Author Reply: I was given Elrond as a person I had to include in my story in which some character Tolkien gave us did a typical fannish action, and suddenly I found myself imagining Bilbo standing in the Hall of Fire reciting "Earendil was a mariner that tarried...," and found that it had to be Bilbo, who'd basically done a fanfic honoring Earendil by writing his famous poem. So, this was born! Bilbo and his white autograph album in which he gathers stories of various people written by the individuals themselves just seemed natural to me! And I can see him convincing others to bring their friends as well.

Thanks so, Sunny!

I so hope Elrond was successful. Great story.

Author Reply: I hope so, too! Heh! Thanks!

A great tribute to the Professor! Now I must go and go and keep building my own sub-created world. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I know that as a child Tolkien wasn't likely to have access to a flashlight really, but I found that it insisted it be included, particularly as this was how I did a good deal of my nightly reading and writing as well.

A beautiful tribute! *raises glass* To the Professor!

Author Reply: Indeed! May his memory stand as long as Mankind persists!

Lovely insight! Middle-earth began with languages, with the creation of new words built on old principles, or so I remember reading.

I am loving my birthday present, collections of words. My hands can't help caressing the leather bindings as I hold a volume and peruse the letters there -- the books fit the hand so well as paperbacks, yet with more substance and elegance than a paperback could ever hope to attain.

Thank you again!

Author Reply: I rejoice that that small set found its proper home! And we are told that our beloved Arda came into being because of an urge to develop languages, so I felt that this was the proper way to honor the Master. Thank you so! And I loved seeing you yesterday!

In the Kalevala the Wizard can utter words of power that can change reality, and songs can build worlds!

Oh, wonderful! I love this little glimpse of him.

Author Reply: I am so honored, Shirebound. How mythology and legends drew him, and in building his own how he has drawn us to follow him! Thank you so!

Well, that was a nice happy ending for him, wasn't it. And maybe it was so, so under the influence of despair and the Shadow that perhap he would not have been morally responsible for his suicide.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I would hope the Creator would rejoice to have him Home again, now that his spirit is healed. Sauron was, after all, the cause of his fall. Thanks so, Antane.

Lovely little chapter, thank you.

Author Reply: Thank you, Freyalyn. It was nice to do a happy Denethor for a change!
