Beneath Strange Stars  by Larner 82 Review(s)

An interesting little gapfiller as it were, neat that Galadriel could look through another substance to find out the dirty little secret. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I suspect that the ability to scry was simply one of Galadriel's strong suits, but that the Mirror (wonder if Celebrimbor crafted the basin and pitcher for it?) gave her more scope for her scrying and allowed her to share that foreseeing with others.

Thanks so very much, Antane, for the feedback!

That's certainly one way to celebrate!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, one way to celebrate, and one that feels almost properly hobbity to me!

With free will some will choose to use their gifts for evil, and it always seems such a waste and a shame. One longs to see it healed.

Author Reply: I do love the thought that this is what will happen--that the Father will bring us back to our original purpose in the end. Thanks so, Aiwen!

It's unusual that hobbits have such a grim sense of humour.

But taking into account the circumstances under which they acted, in the middle of War, they did what hobbits always do: make light of grave matters!
(This ability helps them to survive while others fall into despair, I think.)

And after all, they did have an impressive bonfire!

I agree that Bucca must have been an interesting character.

Author Reply: I suspect that the Hobbits who fought in Arnor's armies frequently found themselves seeking what distractions they could from the horrific situation in which they found themselves. When we realize that of all of those who left the Shire only one returned, one can appreciate how distressing they all must have found things. And this was likely the only bonfire they'd be allowed that Yule, facing the camp of the enemy so directly!

*shakes head* Only the Hobbits!
It's interesting to see Hobbits as true warriors, not only defending their homes with slingshots and stones, though. Bucca must have been an interesting character.

Author Reply: I've written about Bucca going out to fight for Arvedui in "Stirring Rings," so it was fun to find another reason to write about these unusual members of Arvedui's army. I have a fondness for Bucca any more.

Wow!!! I am speechless. This was absolutely amazing. As you stated, Eru can restore all. The way you expressed this fact touched my heart.

Excellent, marvelous job!!!!

Author Reply: In the time of Remaking, I do believe that Eru would wish to put all back to what it was intended to be, after all. Am so glad you liked it! Thank you so!

Oh, Larner, this is so hopeful and beautiful! What a beneficent view of what The End might be like.... When all find that which was meant for them to love.

I especially loved this little bit: Varda’s stars shine the more brightly because they blaze against the dark of night, and the dark of night is the more beautiful because it contains the light of stars within it.

What a way to make this stargazer grin and her heart go pitty-pat!

Beautifully done, Larner... thank you for sharing it!

Author Reply: My stepfather was an amateur astronomer, and had two huge telescopes he would break out at times. I lost my fear of the night when I began appreciating how beautiful the stars were, I know. And thank you so for telling me how this made you feel! I am honored, Barbara.

I am honoured Larner. Thank you so very much.
This takes a lot of reading and is well worth the effort. One to savour and reread.

Author Reply: I'm so glad I could post it here at last. I had started it and didn't get it done for your birthday, and then found it fit perfectly with the theme for the October challenge and finally got it finished and posted. I'm just sorry it didn't get posted on time when I intended to do so.

Love to you and your folks and to Jet. Life here is far too--interesting--to find pleasant, I fear.

You seriously need to stop writing these things. That did bring tears to my eyes. How lovely if that were really to happen.

Author Reply: To know that something I've written has moved individuals to such emotion is one of the greatest praises I could receive. I do hope it will happen exactly this way! Thank you so, Shemyaza.

Waaah! You made me cry again! It was sooo heart-breaking!

But seriously, between two pieces of Kleenex, I had great fun figuring out the identity of the individual characters. ;)

For some reason, Denethor was the last one I cold identify, although, in hindsight, the palantír should have been a dead give-away.

Author Reply: I made you cry? I'm honored! I would have thought Denethor would be the easiest to recognize, myself. Am pleased he managed to be elusive, then! Heh!
