Yupp, I can just see that happening!

Author Reply: So could I! *grin*

These are all most enjoyable. I especially liked Merry ad Pippin determined to join the quest.

Author Reply: Thank you! I had been toying with the Merry-Pippin AU for a while...

Oh yes, I can understand Hamson!

My "little" brother turned 30 last year, finished his studies and has accepted a very good job offer just yesterday.

How the time flies! It's unbelievable :-)

Author Reply: *nods* It really is hard to realize that a "little" brother or sister has grown up, especially if you do not see them frequently!

Did it occur to you, when you disregarded Gandalf's advice to trust to friendship, that your refusal to let them go might also endanger Frodo?

Exactly! Well spoken, Bilbo!

I liked this very much and I admire Merry's cleverness.

Author Reply: It's an AU I've toyed with for a long time-- from reading that chapter, I get the impression it was a very close thing with Elrond's decision. He could easily have decided to go with his own feelings on the matter instead of Gandalf's...

Makes me wonder if Hamson will pop a vein when he later finds out Sam is the Mayor! ;o)

Author Reply: LOL! Perhaps by the time that happens, he will finally be used to the idea that "little Sam" is all grown up.

*grin* But I wouldn't count on it!

Believe it!! Indeed it was to a beloved brother that Frodo left his home, a most worthy heir, for Sam loved the place almost as much as Frodo did.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, he did. Of course, it's very hard for an older sibling to see a much younger one as anything but a child!

Love it! How right they are to defy Elrond.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Of course defiance was the theme here! I am very glad that in canon, Elrond was wise enough to listen to Gandalf!

They'll throw the numbers off! *grins* What a small price to pay for such determined companions. I just love this.

The supplies Bilbo allowed us to pilfer from him are about to run out

LOL! Dear Bilbo.

Author Reply: *grin* I think Bilbo felt that they should have been allowed to go, so he'd certainly help them out if he could, LOL!

And that Brandybuck and Took are indeed quite determined!

Interesting idea (and one I've never seen before). It could be a whole series.

But I have to ask -- who are the others (both elves, I guess) who went in place of Merry and Pippin? And they didn't mention Boromir: is he still in the Fellowship? Did he ever reach Rivendell? How AU is this?

Author Reply: I don't know if I will continue it. But it could be fun, perhaps in several vignettes.

Boromir's there. I don't think in this AU that Merry and Pip know him well enough to guess his reaction. As for the other Elves, my notion is that it would either have been Elladan and Elrohir, or Glorfindal and one other of Elrond's people.

In my AUs, I usually change as little as possible initially -- usually only one or two small things. Then I see how far the ripples spread.

Aw, I'd like to take part in that dance, too!

Author Reply: Well, I've danced that dance (called the Tangle Bransle in our world) but never with hobbits! I think it would be even more fun with hobbits!
