Nice! You wove Tom into this series beautifully.

Author Reply: Hello shirebound,

gosh that was a fast review! I'm delighted you enjoyed Tom's appearance - particularly given the headache it caused me this morning when I realised he had held the ruddy thing for a minute ...

*sniggers*

Thanks very much for R & R-ing,

M ;)

I don't think Isildur was a wuss - he fell quickly because the Ring was so powerful at that moment, almost as much as it would be for Frodo when he was at the Fire himself. I think that was a major factor in it all, but so is graces given and cooperated with, such as Frodo was given to withstand it just long enough to fulfill his vocation.

Namarie, God bless, Your berry :)

Author Reply: Hello berry,

mayhap you have a point.

But I still think he was a wuss.

I'm just bad like that ...

*evil grin*

Cute, cousin. Why didn't he just snatch back the tea service since it was his anyway? :)

Namarie, God bless, Your bloom :)

Author Reply: Hello m'dear,

I think he probably bought it back (along with his other possessions) from whichever of the ladies who made the successful bid. I just used the line to contrast his shifting priorities.

*wink*

Thanks for R & R-ing, Tooky bloom,

M ;)

Ooh, I think one of them must be Tom Bombadil. As for the other, didn't someone put the ring on a chain while Frodo was unconscious in Rivendell?

Author Reply: Hello Silmarien,

chapter six is just for you, m'dear. Hope you enjoy it! As for Rivendell, I'm not counting that because no one in particular was mentioned (that I could find). I'm just assuming they sort of prodded it onto the chain without touching it or lifting it, daft as that sounds ...

Thanks for R & R-ing,

Kara's Aunty ;)

Very good so far. I especially like the contrasts between the Ringbearers themselves and between their wishes and reality. Some examples:

Sauron who thought himself invincible - and lost the battle.
Isildur who won the battle and the Ring, but later lost his life.
Deagol who dreamed of being mayor of his village, but was murdered.
And Smeagol who got the precious Ring, but was banished from his family and land.

I just remembered another Ringbearer (for a very brief moment).
Let's see if I'm right!

Author Reply: Hello Andrea,

glad you're enjoying the contrast between the bearers. Your summary of them more or less nailed it!

I have a sneaking suspicion the other Ringbearer you're thinking of may be the same one appearing in chapter six - and they are, then the Author's Note of that drabble is a thank you to you as well!

Thanks for R & R-ing,

M ;)

The terrible moment of separation when Gollum is born - well done, cousin! What is truly amazing though is that even after centuries of being consumed by the Ring, there is actually still a bit of Smeagol left that can be reached. He does not really die until the Stairs of Cirith Ungol.

Namarie, God bless, Your bloom :)

Author Reply: Hello m'dear :)

yes, Sméagol still has some life in him yet, though Gollum isn't aware of it ... Quite remarkable that, after so many centuries under its influence, there was even a smidgeon of the original hobbit-like creature lurking deep in Gollum's psyche. Just shows what a bit of kindness & thoughtfulness can do.

Thanks for R & R-ing,

Cousin Mo :o)

Awwww poor Smeagol......

Author Reply: Hello Armariel,

I know, It's a wee shame.

One of the few times I ever felt sorry for him ...

Thanks for R & R-ing,

M ;)

Poor Déagol. I had forgotten he was ever so briefly a Ring-finder and bearer. This is so well done, my dear. Makes me ache for him for what is coming in just moments.

Namarie, God bless, Your berry :)

Author Reply: Hello sweetie,

ah, poor Déagol indeed. So many plans, so little time ...

Hopefully the next drabble will lift your spirits a bit!

Thanks for R & R-ing, bloom,

M ;)

And thus he falls. If he had not what would have happened to the Ring? Who would have borne it? Hmmm... It was a good thing and an evil thing that he took it, all meant to be or allowed to happen for the greater good.

Namarie, God bless, Your wondering bloom :)

Author Reply: Hello curious bloom,

thanks very much for reviewing this drabble. It seemed to have been going down like a lead balloon up until you did (heck, on ff dot net, where I've also posted, not one single review had been left for any of these three drabbles so far). Methinks people associate the term 'Ringbearer' primarily with Frodo/Bilbo/Gollum and reading drabbles about Sauron, Isildur and Déagol are maybe throwing them a little.

Oh, well. You win some, you lose some.

Back to Isildur - who indeed does know what would have happened to the RIng had he not fallen. Perhaps he would have found the strength to destroy it ...

I've always thought he was a bit of a wuss, actually. I know the Ring is all powerful, etc, etc. and that Men are especially prone to its influence but honestly! Boromir managed to withstand its influence for months before he succumbed to temptation. True, he never held it, but he was in constant proximity to it for ages, and its call must've been driving him bonkers. Isildur barely glanced at it before he was hooked, and look at all the trouble his weakness caused ...

Anyway, enough of that! Thanks for cheering me up with this review, m'dear,

Cousin Mo x

Sauron, Isildur, smeagol, deagol, frodo, sam, bilbo.... who are the other two? Tried hard but could not figure out? Gandalf held it for a little while perhaps? Faramir or Aragorn picked it up at some point?? One of the orcs?? waiting to find out :)

Author Reply: Hello Praveen,

aha, who indeed? You're really picking your brains aren't you?

*chuckles*

Glad to know it's got you thinking. As for who the other two are - well, why spoil the fun? But I will tell you that neither of them are Gandalf, Aragorn or Faramir ...

Thanks for R & R-ing. Your review really made me smile!
